A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hmm

I don't know if the DPO ever checked or changed the fluids on any of my G's, but I'm positive the lazy ass current oener hasn't touched any of them (or the part in the trans for that matter).

I suppose I should.

combat, bit more than suppose!

Im thinking the failure of my drive had entry of water as the root cause.

FD is vented, theres a breather at the top, built into the case, so if it was ever under water crossing a creek say, theres the potential for water to enter.
This water will find some where to sit and rust it will. only defense, regular fluid changes.

Sleeve kit on order, more waitin this jobs takin forever!

I know how you feel John... my spark issue is taking, well, forever too.

Good thing you loaned me your scope though as at least I have some clue as to what's going on now!

hi,
On page 4-33 of the service manual (on Bassclifs site, thanks) it seems the backlash of the fd is measurred with a backlash measuring tool...figures..
now for all intents its a hose clamp with an arm sticking out...

Has any got one/used one and can tell exactly how far out the arm the measurement is taken ?

any help?

John, I can't make sense of why they measure backlash on the pinion side. most backlash is measured at the ring gear. I guess it really doesn't matter which end you measure backlash.

my best guess as to the length of the arm? it would have to be the same height as the outer diameter of the pinion gear tooth contact surface at it's greatest diameter.

next question... what is 27~50?

I'd make the arm length the same as the outermost part of the teeth and place the dial indicator plunger slightly inboard of that point.

Hey thanks for the offer John but Chuck Hahn in the States is chasing up a

replacement pumpkin for me. Looks like he has split the final drive to

reduce weight and send 2 parcels instead of 1. Alot cheaper. Any way after

seeing the pictures Chuck sent me of the split final drive I thought I would

have a look in mine. Which also had the shaft sheared off likes yours. I

found damage on the gears so it would not be worth repairing like you have

done. There are heaps of drives on ebay but I wanted to look for one off

this site. I will post pics once I learn how to attach.

Regards
