I blew the wheel spline in my wife's '82 GS850GZ, and picked one up from a '90 VS1400 Intruder. The have different part #s, the Intruder being 64680-24A00, and the one for her bike is 64680-45112 or 64680-45113. What is the difference? They look the same, but for some reason when the wheel is tightened, (just hand tight with a crescent, NOT standing on a breaker bar or anything silly), the wheel is REALLY hard to turn, even without the caliper mounted. Yes, all the bearings and spacers are there and in the right sequence. I notice on the Intruder, the drive is on the right side of the bike as opposed the the left for the GSs. Makes a differnce?
Has anybody else had any experience with the Intruder splines?
