A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

20180221_201904.jpgthis is the final drive I've pulled from my 82 gs850 - 1000 I've picked up a second hand one and its in better step than this ill eventually figure out how to load multiple photos sooner or later... for now ill put them up one at a time .

20180221_202035.jpg this is the final drive assembly that goes in the wheel clearly stuffed

20180221_201921.jpgthis is the second hand one i got off my buddy
theres a bit of wear should i be concerned????/

20180221_202343.jpgthis is the second hand final drive component that
gets bolted to the hub. it come off a 81 s1000 its the dreaded gold one.... it shows signs of wear should i install or hunt a better one down ? they are hard to find here in ausssy land

20180221_191755.jpg
so I've split them the original one on the right has the bad crown wheel and the one on the left has a rusted pinion end where the shaft inserts ?

so my question is can i swap the shaft insert end from one to the other ?
or should i put the crown wheel from the new( second hand) into the original housing both had the gear mesh right in the middle but the shim stacks are slightly different ?????
are the gear sets "mated" to each other ?

or can i reshim the good crown wheel to the good housing?

and final question the slight wear on the new final drive is it worth hunting down a black 1980 gs spline(the one in the hub of the wheel)

sorry if my terms are not correct trying to learn ..... thanks in advance lads

I'd keep hunting. They were used in many Suzuki models even till this day. Don't limit your search to GS models, you'll find one.

ok cheers I've already hit every wreckers in queensland up for one i got a few leads on donor bikes i can hunt what do u think about the final drive i got it better than the old one but not sure if its "good" enough ?

so i think ill just go new on the part in the wheel .... found them on flea bay
do u think the splines on the second hand final drive is good enough??

I think you should be OK there. That material was not known to be soft. Make sure to use some Honda moly 60 or 77 when you reassemble.

I agree on the second final drive splines. :encouragement:

I did not see any wear, it looks good to me.

The wheel side? I might install it so I can ride to where a good one is located, but I certainly would not leave it in very long.

.

cheers guys i ordered the 60% moly though my honda shop. weathers bad here atm lucky coz i would have rushed it:ambivalence::victorious:

its got a slight leak out of the secondary drive oil seal.. got one today but having trouble getting the nut off any tricks or just hit it with the bigger rattle gun?

don't want to brake the bugger off and have to do the mr look "fix"
