A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I had rebuilt my carbs and it would not run right , there was a small piece of rubber floating around, when I would take off the carbs it would move from carb to carb. finally found it after i removed the needle valve seats and blew it out. Then it ran good but later i had a inline fuel filter and too much fuel line and it was kinking the fuel line and starving the the motor for gas. I fixed that and it ran great after that.

Sorry to hear you are still battling with a sick bike:(
Firstly you need to clarify, is it running out of grunt over a certain time or a certain power requirment?
In other words, can you ride it all day long at 40mph with no problems, or does it die after, for argumets sake, after fifteen minutes of riding, regardless?
If it is flaking out after a certain time, no matter what your speed, then it is something getting hot and breaking down, look at your ignition system.
If, however you can ride at 40mph all day long, no problems, and when you increase to, say, 60mph, she flakes out, then it is a power delivery problem, look at your fuel system, (read, fuel starvation)

With that out of the way, the devil is in the details

when i got the bike i rode a 900 mile round trip with no problems at all

just had the tank painted

Herein lies the clue, all was good, something was done, then all was not so good, so something changed inbetween, your job is to find out what?

I would back up Cliff's theory of a blocked breather, you never did say if you checked the little hole in the filler neck, and remember the cap itself needs to vent as well, through the key hole, as I remember there are two little holes in the side of the cap as well.
A good test to eliminate that is to fill the tank, no more than half full, so you don't spill, and take it for a test run without the cap on, see what happens, if she performs as advertised, you have venting problems, if she still dies, well.....back to the drawing board.
Don't worry about the filter, it won't cause grief, no matter what they say to you, my bike has run with a filter most of its life with no ill effects.
But what the guys tell you is true, you don't need it, the fuel tap has a screen, as do the carbs, at each needle and seat, so you have double protection, so if it is off, leave it off, just saying, it won't cause your problems.

Try those little tests and report back, we will get you up and mobile yet, just stick with it, you have all the help you need right here.

i did check the filler cap a while back i took it apart and cleaned it out. it seemed to be working properly. as for when she dies i rode about 15 miles the other day at about 50-60 mph just crusin easy on the throttle i sped up to 70 and within about 1 mile she started cuttin out. also i can take off in first and run through the gears at WOT and it cuts out at maybe half to three quarters of a mile. i installed new dyna coils and plug wires a while back
