All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I dont know what to say about picture where meter leads are in the connenctor.
Manaul says 3 to 5 ohms for the primary of the coils, and you are showing 6.6.
I havent had any expereince with that to know if that is serious problem or not.

WHere you are showing 25K cap to cap, that is about what mine usally read, about 29 or 30K. Although the manaul says should be 35 to 40K (if I remember correctly).

Where you are showing reading 45K cap to cap, that is not too much over the range stated in the book, but is quite abit over what I have come to expect. Try taking off the cap (they twist-pull off) and measuring each cap seperatly. SHould be right at about 5K. THey do fail and go too high of a resistance and then go open. ANd only cost about 4-5 bucks each. CAn get NKG caps at about any mo'cycle shop. Actaully I think the caps fail more than any other part in the ignition system, in my limited experence.

Have you found the connector for the pickup ?

Would help if you had your bike model/year in your signature line.

sry guys. its a 1982 gs550 and i found theat the 2 smaller caps were bad so i replaced them all with caps off a 2007 shadow since they were free. when it showed the reading in the pics it would not arch and if it did only a few times. now i just went out 5 mins ago and it was arching so i tested both the primary and secondary and they were both right on at 5.0 and 25k. What is going on!

also my right side coil (2-3) is the one i have most of my problems. it gets pretty hot...more then it should
