    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fitting Camshaft end half moon rubber seals

My cam cover gasket is not leaking.

The front camshaft end rubbers are the originals and are aged and leaking.

Can I remove and fit the new ones without taking the cover off and
by pushing them into place from the outside ?

I know the cam cover gasket is above the halfmoons, but my thinking is that if I ease the old ones out and then insert the new ones after being in
the fridge then they will fit easily without damaging the gasket above !

When the rubbers warm up they will seal and stay put.

Has anyone done this with success ?
 
Get a cam cover gasket and do it right. If the seals fail your going to get a hot oil bath on the road, and have to limp home with oil all over the place.

To change the half moon rubber cam seals I just have the following.....

1 cam cover gasket
and 4 half moon cam rubbers

To remove the cover do I just.....

disconnect the tacho drive then undo the 16 bolts. anything else ?

With the cover off remove the old gasket, make sure both surfaces are
clean then fit the half moons , then the gasket , cover and finally bolts.

any need for paste ? what is the torque for the 16 bolts ?
 
Check your valve clearances while you're in there...

yup, that's what you do
you can use a bit of grease on the rubbers
the torque is 6.5 ft lb

ps. you may need to remove the breather cover first to have enough clearance to take the cam cover off
 
Not sure about the 750 but you do not have to remove the tach drive to remove the cam cover on a 550.

Regarding the half moon pieces, I glue them in with gray Threebond adhesive just like Suzuki does when new.
 
oops, you're right nessism, i don't need to remove the tacho on my 850 either (so not likely to have to do it on 750)
