    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just finished repairing my 80 GS11. While waiting for countershaft bearings I decided to start the paint project. Well, after looking at the dramatic effect of the flat black primer with all of the chrome engine covers, etc. I am going to actually paint it flat black. Has anyone ever had a flat paint job? How do you maintain it? i.e. Do you actually wax the flat black surfaces?

Most flat black paint and/or stickers will tell you NOT to put wax on it. I think thats because if you put wax on it it wont be flat anymore but have a bit of a shine to it.
 
my bike is flat black :D , when i spill a little gas on the tank it leaves white streaks then i shoot some more flat black to cover it :D
 
thinking about painting the rims red and hanging a rubber chicken from the tail light 8)
 
I love that Idea......My ride is a mix of factory black, grey primer, and metallic blue......taillight held on with zip ties! :D

I was painting it metallic blue but, kid #2 kinda put all projects on hold for a while...
 
I'll be shooting Imron. At about 160.00 per quart I don't think i'll be reshooting her every time I get gas spilled on LOL. Thanks for the input guys. Hmmmmmm, maybe the gas tank should be powder coated flat black. :)

I STILL DREAM ABOUT PAINTING MY RIMS RICK--WHAT METHOD WILL YOU USE AND what type of pain is in your plan
 
i dont know the first thing about painting rims yet, my side panel and rear fender turned out a nice flat black but the tank is kinda shiny i guess cause its metal...ill get pics as soon as my friend gets here with the digital cam.
 
You can still shoot it with 2k clear. They have a flat, and semi gloss finish in their lineup. Then you wouldn't have to worry about gas, or anything else for that matter. The likely reason for your tank being "shinier" isn't because it's metal, but that is was coated too heavy on the last pass.
