If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Flat or Gloss?

I have the bike stripped down to the frame with the exception of the engine. I sanded/cleaned everything and put down a few coats of flat black engine enamel over the motor and frame with the intentions of doing a few more coats then a few coats of gloss.

Well it looks pretty slick as is and with having the tank, side panels, & fenders gloss I was thinking of leaving the frame flat and possibly the engine. To help off set the different pieces.

Thought I would get the 2 cents of you folks :) Thoughts?

Gloss will clean easier on the chassis. Once flat gets dusty, it's a pain to clean.

I am sort of leaning towards flat frame, swing arm, and triple tree. Then gloss for the engine, tank, covers, fenders, fork cover, ears, bowl, & calipers.

:)

Assuming the inevitability of clearcoating for permanence and lomgevity, just paint everything with the same paint and then figure whether to get the clear in just flat, just gloss or both. They DO make flat clearcoat.

Wasnt planing on clearcoating the fram and engine. For one I couldnt find high temp clear and for two I figured "Enamel" would be strong enough...

Some things I like flat... Others not so much!

I personaly like the flat look.
I am thinking of going with a paint called HotRodFlatz. They have almost any color you can think possible in an automotive paint with a flat look.
It isn't a primer but looks like it.
Just my .02

I like high gloss. Lots of shine! \\:D/

Flat black makes it look like you stole it, ran it through a few side alleys, a couple of backyards, pulled it into a shed and spray bombed it in the middle of the night to cover up. 8-[

Definately, go with the flat black.
While you're there scratch up the VIN abit.

On all my rebuilds I've only ever had one rule - gloss black frame (includes a near concours original A65 BSA which should have had a grey frame). Anything else and any colour (except pink!) goes. Apologies if anyone's got a pink bike, but me and pink?.......nah.

OK See now your just trying to make me look bad. Doing it all proper and taking the engine apart sheesh lol.

Nah.... this motor was already apart. Had the crank welded, head ported, and bored out for larger pistons. So I went ahead and painted it. :)

My colours for bikes are traditional, gloss silver or gloss black. Done well I think its hard to beat, and yeah the gloss and clear coat is easier to keep clean, cheers.

Gloss.

Do you live in a city? If you do, be a rebel and go gloss.

The whole "rat rod" thing is so freakin' overdone that you should do gloss just to be a trend setter. From flat black Ducatis to flat black mid '60s Fords, it's all just too much. I miss shiny paint.

Flat black to the early '00s is like purple to the late '80s.

Gloss. If you want to stand out!
Matte black was cool.
Now just about every bike I see on the road is matt black. (or red)
Cheers
