    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I know I just posted the same question not long ago but I really need to know what everyone has used to flush out their forks when changing fluid. I was given a thimbs up on here to use kerosene, which is what i thought would be best. My local dealer says they use parts solvent and to stay away from kerosene. I hate to beat a dead horse but I really don't want my seals eaten up. I guess I just need some reassurance. I trust you guys more than I do the service departments at most shops. Thanks for letting bend your ear (or should I say monitor).
 
I used kerosene and let the forks stand inverted for a while to drain it out completely. I haven't had a problem with my fork seals in the year or two since I did this.

Kerosene is as gentle as it gets. Parts cleaners on the other hand can be harsh depending on which one. Diesel will work too.

Make sure you pump the suspension when you do it so the kerosene flushes everthing. Pump them upside down to empty the dirty kerosene. Do each fork leg 5 or 6 times to get them good and clean. You only need a little over a cup each flush.
 
I use automatic transmission fluid for the flush then run 2 flushes of fork oil
 
I use WD-40 and then a cheapie 5W-whatever oil. Then the fork oil...which I need to change because the current batch is too heavy.
 
Yeah, a friend of mine suggested WD-40 also. But I wasn't sure.
 
If you want to pay the price for enough WD-40 no problem. Since it's mostly kerosene anyway it's much cheaper to use kerosene or diesel.
 
Yep, kero or diesel is lots cheaper but, I don't use that much WD-40, the real flush is with the 5W motor oil. But WD-40 sure smells better than diesel!
 
I just got done flushing and refilling my forks. (I used kerosene) Worked great. Really got the old sludge out. So, with new fork springs and fluid and new shocks my scooter rides like new!!! And I didn't even have to throw stuff in the garage while doing it. The Gods smiled on me ( this time).
