I too have the Spitfire on my "G", it's cheap, about 60 bucks and infinitely adjustable. Last weekend I took the G to San Diego from my home in Scottsdale, two days, 800 mi and it was 104 Sunday when I got back home. With the superbike bars and the Spitfire the seating position is just about perfect for my frame and the windshield keeps the blast off of my torso. The combo makes all day rides not only possible but enjoyable.

Now if I could just figure out how to get an ice cold Dr. Pepper going down I-10 at 80 mph I will be set.

Hey Cliff.

Your sig says that it's a Spitfire s-06 but when I look at those online, they appear to have wings on them. I like the look of yours (happen to have a head-on pic?) but not the one on the spitfire site. The pic from their site is below. Did they change it since you purchased or did you modify yours perhaps?

Just ordered a Slipstream Spitfire for the GS1000G for $66 shipped off Amazon. I guess I'll try using a windshield again. Always preferred the open ride, but there are many mornings in NH when a little protection might help.
Basscliff, you put yours at a fairly steep angle. Does that help reduce handlebar shake at 85mph(or whatever it is since I often bury my speedo)? One of the reasons I hesitated trying a windshield again. I've felt that wobble before with a couple of other designs! :-k

Here's a flyscreen that I borrowed from my GS500E for awhile. It nearly put me into a tank slapper at "beyond speedo mph" so I ditched it. It looked cool though around town.

I've experimented with several angles to deal with turbulence, noise, crosswinds, wind blast, etc. Having it swept back at that angle protects my body, leaves my helmet in clean air to cut down on wind noise and buffeting, and also reduces cross-wind effects and truck blast.

The instructions said to mount the shield on top of the headlight, parallel with the forks. But I think that's for a cruiser. It was way too noisy and had too much vibration from fighting the wind at that angle. I have mine on top of the gauges and angled back quite a bit. I don't bury my speedo very often, but I've never noticed any handlebar shake since I found the angle and position that works for me. I'm always on the freeway at 70-75mph with no issues at all.

You'll want to experiment with the angle and mounting points to get the best ride for your bike, your height, etc.

The Slipstreamer Spitfire is a "deflector" size, a little bigger than the "fly screen" but it offers a little more protection. I really like mine.

I thought using this Targa Sportstar SV650 fairing on my GS.

It fit nice but the front turn signals would need to be moved.

It's hanging on the wall now.

Yep, that's what my headlight/ears look like too. We even have the same turn indicators.

Did you have to modify the bracket? Even better, do you leave it on the street? I could ride by in the morning and take a look...

I have the signals installed in the hole behind the headlight-mounting holes. I didn't need to modify anything during the installation - it was pretty straight forward and only took about 20 minutes. I have it set up as verticle as posible, but it will also tilt back so it sits real tight against the gauges if that's the look your going for. Either way, the results are about the same on the highway. The hardware included in the set is high quality. Over all, I'm very happy with it.

So yea, I keep the bike parked outside, but it's usually covered up overnight and in the morning. If you want to check it out sometime send me a PM. It'll be at my house in the morning at on Milwaukee Ave by my office in River West during the day.

That's where we are different. My indicators go directly into the bucket which keeps all the wires internal to the bucket. Hmmm...

I installed my Slipstreamer Spitfire windscreen and tested it out today on a 100 mile loop. It gets my thumbs up. Good wind protection on my upper body while riding in temps in the 40's. No wobble while riding at 85 mph(not sure what speed but maxed the speedo). Nice and smooth and balanced while doing the hands off test at 40-50mph. I'm not a windscreen guy but for $66 shipped this will come in handy and hardly noticable....and of course the Spitfire name matches my Bridgestone Spitfire tires too.

Thanks for the pics. The Givi is my second choice.

I think I'll try these and see how that works for my hwy commute. If i need more, I'll look for the Spitfire some of the others mentioned.

I'm really still quite amazed at the difference a little fly screen can make... I've read lots of reviews where reporters say this little screen around the binnacle makes a noticeable difference, or that little gauge cluster has a noticeable affect on wind blast, etc. etc.

Every time I read one of those I think yeah right... and then I tilted my fly screen that little bit forward as I said earlier, and now I actually believe them... you don't need a Windjammer or a Goldwing or anything like that to get a bit of wind blast off your chest at speed...

This is my first season with the Maier Sport fairing on. I like it quite a bit. Reduces wind blast to the chest, but my helmet is still in the airstream. If I'm on the bike solo I can slide back on the seat and duck my head wholly behind it and become much more aerodynamic. Plus it looks good and hides the bulky stock gauges.

Don't really have a good picture of it from the front, so excuse the fuzziness.

I use to have the same fairing on my '78 GS1000 until a huge rock came flying off a gravel truck and shattered it. I liked it, it made the 1400 mile round trip from western North Dakota to Wisconsin and back bearable.
