DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Putting in some Progressive springs pretty soon here.

Also, the left fork leg is leaking pretty good, so new seals are probably needed.

Is there anything else I should be looking at doing? Advice?

I've never done a set of forks before, so naturally I'm a bit apprehensive about doing this.

Anything you can throw me would be great.

If its up around 40 000miles consider replacing the fork bushings,...consider them anyway... oh, and don't use ATF,use fork oil

Just turned over 17K today. Do you think it's worth it? How much for the parts?

I really dont want to have to dig into them again, at least for a good long while, so anything i can do now would be excellent.

If the chrome on the legs is pitted and that's what's causing the leaks, while you've got them apart, get them ground and hard chromed. Not real expensive and will give you long term reliability.Cheers,Simon.:)

Hey Simon what is an average price in OZ for this service.

Factory service manual calls for changing the bushings EVERY time the forks are torn down. A bit excessive I think but I'd do it on forks with 17k.

Where can i get these bushings? Looked on BikeBandit, couldnt find em.

Might be a little hard for you to do, ya know, as you actually have to PAY for the item once you decide to buy.
Good luck with that.

SERIOUSLY, you F**CKING TOOL... GET OVER IT. I DONT WANT YOUR GARBAGE.

I will PAY YOU your measly 25 bucks to SHUT THE F*CK UP ALREADY.

THANK GOD I didnt do business with your lousy ass, look what kind of vindictive POS you are.

Ill send you the 2500 pennies to go BUY A LIFE ALREADY.

Then why did you ask me for them, have me remove them from the engine and tell me you'd pay me only to disappear? How does this make me the bad guy for not rolling over for your bull**** tactics?
I don't even want your ****ing money, I just expect people to live by their word, and if you didn't want them the least you could do is tell me so. You seem to think its fine, whatever.
I just hope people will see you for what you are and decide not to do business with you.

Easy guys. No parts or money even exchanged hands. Sh*t happens. It's over.

Relax.

Well, while this is an argument, clearly, I just have to ask:

How was it Tobisim had to remove fork bushings from the engine?

And how was it Groundshock didn't just order fork bushings from the dealer?

These are not the kind of parts one installs used. If you have your forks apart, just buy new parts and be done with it.

S.

Agreed. Didnt want to drag it out onto the forum but the guy just wont let it go. Check his posts.

I've done perfect business with several others here, just not this jerkoff. He clearly has issues and after watching him troll thread after thread, it makes me feel good that nothing went any farther than it did.

Sorry for the drama, GSR, I know this isnt what we're about, but enough is enough.

Anyway, back on topic, what exactly are the fork bushings anyway? I looked at t he exploded view and didnt see anything that was called a bushing?

Suzuki calls these things "Slide Metals" for some reason.

On some bikes, such as the later GS850, the upper ones aren't listed on the fiche and don't seem to be available.

Last time I had my forks apart, at about 82,000 miles, mine still looked fine. At 17,000, don't sweat it.

Mine from 1983 are teflon coated. The teflon wears through. They are called slide metals, and also 'slide bushes' I think. They fit into an recess on the outside diameter at the bottom of the upper, and my understanding is that they help hold the tubes in alignment, preventing sticktion and such. I have heard of people shimming them out with beer can. The boys at the shop laughed at me when I paid for mine, saying I would never notice the difference. But I felt virtuous and safe, so I didn't mind.

Sounds good to me. Kinda the answer I was hoping for.

Thanks.
