DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Frame types?

Hello All,
Got an easy question for ya, I am looking to replace the tank on my 82 GS650G with a tear-drop shaped tank, also going to custom make a seat, low profile and add forward controls. My question is, the L model look is what I am after, is the frame significantly different than my G model?
in other words, can I get the same cruiser look that an L model has by modifying the seat and gas tank?
Thanks
Tom

Tom - owning both, and having them set side by side, I can tell you there is quite bit of difference between the two ... the L model frames are just a bit shorter from the ground up than the G frames, but the biggest difference lies in the front end. The L model bikes have much longer fork setups than the G's and the rear tire setups are usually an inch in diamter smaller than the G's (16's instead of 17's). The seats are also completely different -with the G's having the standard "flat" seat and the L's having the stepped saddle. Those differences combined make for a lower seat height and a little bit longer (taller looking) front end. 8)

Looks like it may be a little harder than I thought to get that cruiser look from my G model huh? oh well, what the heck, Im not planning on doing any permenent damage to the original parts of the bike, nor the frame, so I guess it wont hurt to experimint.. Thanks for the info
Take care
Tom
