Fried Stator? Stator Interchangeability?

4014291 is the SH-775 unit. Hooray for Yamaha to have discovered it AND used it! Free shipping means that's a deal!

Thank you Tom, I thought that may be the case but wasn't 100% confident enough to order it.

I guess they may make this "version" for Yamaha since it doesn't mention sh775 and looks to be a different color.

I hope that was a transcribing error when you said the part# is 4014291 is the SH-775 unit.

since this unit for sale is #4012941..

The Polaris Dealer wants $81, and that seems to be the going rate for these new and improved RR's. I did notice that the Polaris Item number is also printed on the sh775 unit (part# 4012941) . Yamaha uses an RR with that number also... but don't know how to tell whether it is a fluke or possibly the same unit.

I've found lots of those - fairly sure they're fakes, masquerading (without actually claiming to be) as series reg/recs. Internally MOSFET or SCR shunt types, in all likelihood. None of them ever show the blind end where the SH-775 would be printed, if they are genuine Shindengen.

Damn I hope you are wrong. If I wanted a shunt type they are a dime a dozen. I guess I should have waited to get more feedback because I already ordered it. If it isn't the right one I guess I hope I can return it.

I would guess the eBay seller is just trying to attract buyers with key words and knows about the sh775 and is using the Polaris part number in his add.

So what are the numbers with the one you borrowed from the other bike???

It was just the OEM shunt style RR that is on my friends bike. I just tried it to make sure the RR was my issue. I also tested my stator and it was generating good voltage.

Exactly - "Regulator for Polaris XXXX" "Fits in place of XXX" - both perfectly true, at that.
You never see, "Fed up with your Polaris or Yamaha stator? Fit one of these and watch it fry!".

Creative mounting is key. I mounted a grapefruit sized R/R on the back of the 1150 battery box - it wouldn't fit underneath as the suspension is in the way. If you plan on riding in the rain, best practice dictates the connectors are on the bottom as to prevent them becoming o-ring "sealed"(haha) buckets for collecting water and debris.

I queried a seller of quasi-Polaris regulators and got this...
Hello,
According our database this regulator will perfectly fit into your motorcycle.
Best Regards,
Nadia
Slippery sods, indeed. They obviously don't care that many people will buy potentially stator-wrecking parts based on this slimy reassurance. All that matters to these swine is the sale.
Oh yes, the 'motorcycle' that Nadia refers to is the Polaris ATV the ebay listing is aimed squarely at - some motorcycle, the clueless bint.

Yes I asked them also : Dear nadia.autoparts,

I ordered this because I noticed the part number was the same as the Polaris units. They are the Shindigen SH775 regulators.

I specifically am wanting the SH775 SERIES voltage regulator.. not the shunt type.

The reason I am asking before it arrives is that is I have to send it back it will be much easier if I do not have to open it first.

They Replyed:

Hello,
you do not need to worry about the regulator.
If there is a problem we will cover the postage fees.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask.

Best Regards
Nadia

I responded that she did not answer my question about it being a series RR as the SH775, but have not received a response yet.

Oh, they'll cover the postage fees. That's big of them - if there's a problem, by definition, the stator being fried will be the 'problem', and I don't see them offering to buy you a new one.

The only way to be reasonably sure it's a series type is putting a clamp or proper meter in the phase lines and observing the unloaded/loaded behaviour.
You know what? I'd really hope it's a genuine series type, even if it is a knock-off, it might be worth the chance. However, since a real SH-775 can be got for 70-odd bucks I don't think I'd risk it.

Here is my last question and here is her reply:

SECOND REQUEST.... AGAIN, since I haven't heard back from you yet....

That did not answer my question.

Is this the Shindengen SH775 SERIES STYLE voltage regulator? That is my only concern.

Polaris uses the same part number (4012941) for the sh775 that you are using in this ad. I am trying to find out if it is absolutely the same type RR, or is this some trick?

Here is a picture of the RR I need.

Here is a link to the manufacturers page. Scroll down to the 3 phase series style 775 : https://www.shindengen.co.jp/product_e/electro/catalog.html

If it is not, or if you do not answer this question PLEASE CANCEL MY ORDER, or I WILL NOT accept the item when it gets here and will be returned to you.

Dear gbillingsly,

Hello,

Our regulator is the same you are looking for. It is MOSFET.
We have sold many of there regulators and until now there is no unsatisfied customer.
So you can accept the package and if there is a problem you can return it back and you will receive your money back.

If you need something else, please feel free to ask.

Best Regards,
Nadia

What does MOSFET mean?

The word MOSFET again ! Metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor- aren't you glad you asked ? The SH-775 doesn't appear to be a MOSFET unit (looks like SCR's), so either Nadia is confused/mistaken/fibbing.
I'd past - no worth saving $10.

Just got a pic of the backside from Nadia. Found this on another site...cheapo it appears so I cancelled my order

I hope Nadia's backside is better! Yes, shame on them for attempting to capitalize on the Shindengen unit. Good perseverance in calling them on it!

Nice work :) I thought Nadia had sent a shot of her own backside, for a moment.

Thank you Grimley for catching my mistake. All is good now and lesson learned.

She has refunded me all the money already and just asks that I refuse delivery to have it sent back.
