    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Okay, so I wanted to swap over to dual discs on my "new" 78 gs750 but didn't want to blow the bank in doing so. So I went on to other things only to come across a killer deal, 35mm tubes, 2 calipers and 2 discs for $10.00! I was told they were off a 79 gs750. They are 35mm and the correct length but the calipers have square pads. The Clymers states "all 79 and earlier models share the same style pads. (round) While all TSCC models have the new square pads." So my questions are:
What does TSCC mean? I can't find it in the Clymers.
When I order the parts, (caliper rebuild kits, stainless brake lines, fork seals, progressive springs, etc.) how do I know the correct year?
I would assume the fork internals and the same, but how about the calipers?
I don't think I'm out of luck with the parts and I'm sure I could find the correct parts, I would just like to know what I'm really installing on the bike.

I'm on 12 hour snow plow shifts right now so my life is very simple: Push snow, check gs forum, sleep, repeat!:)
 
TSSC means the model with the 16V engine.

Mine also has square pads, it's an 80 GS1000G

I test rode a 750 TSSC from 82 the other week. Apart from the anti dive unit fitted the brake calipers etc looked identical to mine.

The calipers off the GS series will all fit the fork mounts with the right amount of offset etc. The only significant difference to consider is that the calipers with the round pads (early design) fit the wider discs and the square pads fit the narrower discs. (Disc external diameters are the same but the pad contact area on the early discs is wider ie extends more towards the wheel spindle).

The square pad calipers also have some subtle differences between design, not across the models but across the years, with the later square pads coming with little attached 'ears'. Caliper seals are consistent size but not pistons - same diameter but depth varies, getting progressively longer through the years.

Stainless brake lines are fully interchangeable across the 'core' years (pre-monoshock).

Beware the cheap caliper rebuild kits with the rubber boots made out of 'jelly'. (It's some wierd rubber that doesn't return to shape). If you have to remove them for maintenance they expand and you can't get the buggers back in.

Fork internals changed every 5 minutes (or so it seems). Although the whole units will swap, the insides won't. (You should be ok with fork seals though).
 
not sure that you're quite right there,
I have a 1980 TSCC 750L model (note the L bit) , with square pads.

I bought 2 nos front calipers for a GS750 , and they do not fit. The mounts are different.

Sorry to throw more confusion into things, if only more stuff was completely interchangeable
 
Does the leading front axel make the difference in how the calipers are mounted???
 
Ok, I guess I'm all good. As long as I use the correct rotors with the correct calipers and don't try to mix and match fork parts. I'll pull them apart sometime when the snow stops! Thanks all.
 
Are all TSCC forks leading axle? The book just shows the leading axle pics and says TSCC. If so, my "new" front end is early model with the late model calipers. Right?:confused: Not that it matters to me, I'm just trying to learn all I can about the GS.
