Hey, I'm almost ready To get My Bike Painted and have no Idea what to do with the front Fender. Right now I have it removed from the Bike and I kinda like the Look.Does anybody else run without it ? Is this even Normal ? I never take it out when there might be rain so what can it hurt ? I have the Original front fender but the front end was pushed in and it's got a bow to it so I was thinking of chopping a little off the front Maybe? I could find a good one to replace it before I paint My other Parts I guess but I'm looking for something Custom. Any Ideas ? Show Me what Ya Got! Thanks, Outlaw

it WILL throw rocks and gravel up in your face. you will notice it especially on the freeway. if you wear a full face helmet, it might not be too bad.

Must be nice to be able to choose to not ride when it might rain. If I tried that here, the only days I could ride would be when it snowed.

You ever happen to go down a street where somebody is watering a lawn or washing their car, and water happens to run into the street? Your bike will be just as wet and that fenderless front tire will spray just as much in your face.

Another function of a front fender is air control. A moving tire will drag a certain amount of air along its surface. When that air gets dragged up to the top, it collides with the oncoming air, creating a LOT of turbulence. A fender helps guide the airflow in this area, minimizing turbulence and actually enhancing the amount of air available for cooling the engine.

Looks Like I should start shopping for a New one to replace My Bent one,That's why I asked. I still would to like to 'Tweak it' Somehow Before Paint

Remember that the most important part of the fender is the bit 'behind' the forks. It's pretty common to chop the fender down a little to make it look a bit more streamlined. The common thing to do is take 1" or so off the rear and about 3 to 4" off the front.

How much are you asking for your 83 venture? What does it need?

IF you wear a full face helmet? How could anyone get on a bike and ride in traffic WITHOUT one? Every rock chip and bug splat your helmet takes is one less in your head, why wouldn't you want to protect your face from that?

I run no fender on my cafe. Its not only looks for me at this point, as i couldnt get the fender i have to tuck under the fork brace, and considering the cafe is my "fun" bike, built strictly for blasting country corners and not a workhorse all conditions bike like my 1100G or soon to have 1100GK, I dont worry bout it. Besides, its like a pound or two less weight on the cafe :)

not having a fender, i can say the rocks and gravel isn't bad at all.. however, the water sprays DIRECTLY into the visor. even just running through wet pavement from a sprinkler, i get about the same amount of water to my visor that i do when in a reasonably heavy rain. i personally consider this a problem because it restricts visibality, and of course, makes my sexy jacket look dirty!:D

painted fender?

Custom fender...

Custom fender...

Ive been running a cut up gs1100 fender but pulled it off for fun last weekend. Heres pics of both...

oh well...

oh well...

I guess I dont dont have a pic of the re-cut gs1100 fender. But I basically cut it much shorter. I followed the lines that the triangular holes make on each side. It looked pretty good. I post a pic of it later. But heres another pic of my "stripped for now" GS.
