A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Front Fork Cover

This nice winter storm we are having right now sucks as it's ice, cold, and freezing fog versus significant snow (had some all day yesterday but not like last weekend). So I'm stuck inside and trying to determine everything I have left to fix to at least make the bike a little more presentable.

One of the things I'd like to change out is the front fork cover (brace). The current one is plastic, missing both reflectors, and chewed up pretty good on the sides. I found some on Ebay but I'm having a problem deciding which one will work correctly for my bike. Remember that although I have a 550T, someone put 750EC forks on it. Is there a difference between the upper fork tubes between the two bikes that will determine which one I get? Or are they all basically the same? I know they have different part numbers and the resulting bike matches do vary significantly.

If I thought of trying to make one (doubtful but hey), what things should I consider before doing so?

This isn't a high priority item but is one of those things I'll want to change out when I can so I appreciate your advice.

I made one for my bike, Scott, out of some thick sheet metal, then stuck a GS1000G emblem on it. Attached it to the lower fork clamps. I didn't want to go through the trouble of removing the forks to put a stock one one, although that may have been less trouble than making this one.

I like that. A couple of mine are missing the "S" sticker, which is NLA. I've been tinkering with ideas on what to do there. its missing completely on one of my 850's. If I didn't know it belonged there, I wouldn't miss it. Its not like brake line tees are something to be ashamed of.
