    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Front signal light wires... where do they plug in?

I just picked up a GS550L for $400 ... the guy I bought it off said that it ran well 2 years ago, but he stored it in a barn for 2 years after he fixed a fuel line and then didn't want to bother finishing. Anyway, the problem is that the front right and left blinker lights have black wires hangind down and for the life of me I can't find any place to plug them into. I also thought there should be a black and white wire coming down as well ... any ideas how to hook up those front blinkers? Also, would the starter turn over if the fuel tank is not hooked up? I hooked up my 12 volt scooter (honda elite 250cc) battery to the cycle and I find that only the front headlights and the back brake lights work ... i checked the fuse box and all fuses seem okay ... Could it be that I need to get a new battery? Any suggestions on what I should do before firing it up ... Thanks, Greg:confused:

There are two types of signals I've seen on these old GSs. One the ground is on the stem and nut that holds the turn signal stalk to the bike. Some have both the ground and + coming out from inside the stalk. The ground is soldered to the spring. Both grounds do go into headlight bucket to ground plugs. The postitive usually are black with a white stripe. These will go to the hot leads for the signals. Either get a manual for a wiring diagram or use a test light to find these.
 
Thanks for the info. What's strange is there's only one wire coming from each. No ground wire like the back lights. Could it be that these were at sometime attached to a front fairing? I looked at a wiring diagram, but I have to admit it was pretty confusing. It looked like a different planetary system ... i did notice that there was a positive and a ground however. Does anyone out there have only one wire front blinkers???
 
The turn signal mounts are grounded with little wires on rings. Make sure they are secure. Check the wires to make sure the insulation is not damaged, they can touch the stalk and pop a fuse.
