A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Do you really need the little tab pieces that hold the bolts on the front wheel for the brake discs ???? Would lock washers do the same ??
Mine are pretty yucky

If their appearance really bothers you - take them off and hit them with a wire wheel, then polish and clear coat - they'll look simply marvelous!! 8)

Go ahead and take the tab pieces off and replace them with washers. I would, however, put some Loctite on each of the six bolts. I would go farther (and I have!) -- replace all six bolts on each side with fresh new ones.

With Loctite!

Man, you've gotta love the auto-censor settings!!!
Perhaps the autocensor knows something about the alternative uses of this miraculous compound that we don't.

I wonder if the auto censor will catch it this time. Here it goes:

the lock tabs do serve a very important purpose, that lock washers may fail to do.
the brake rotors go through repedant heat cool cycles as you ride the heating causes the metal of the rotors to expant and the it contracts as it cools, the tabs prevent the rotor bolts from loosening and backing out due to there expanding and contracting at differant rates from the rotor it's self.
Lock ti te will serve the purpose of the tabs and keep the bolts from loosening, but make sure to select the correct grade and type of lock tight.

Mr Focus is right the lock tabs are important,in racing they must be used or the bolts drilled and lock wired because it has been found this is the only safe way. why do you want to get rid of them :D :D ozman

I would keep the locktabs unless you wire the bolts. Safety over looks in this case.

I agree, clean 'em up and put 'em back on!!! Do you really want to screw around with (IMO) the most important part of the bike!?!?!? 8O

This is why I love this site !!!
Good thing I asked! 8O Never even thought of the reason they were there. Guess I'll be gettin the elbow grease out & cleaning them up.

I love those technical terms "thingys" . Lockwashers will absolutely not do the same job. Definitely Loc.... , you know, the things in place if you take the tabs off.
