DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm a little younger than most on here probably and by the time I was able to wrench on things you just don't run without a fuel filter. And so that's what I've been trying to do. The po had one on there and I and got one that was supposed to be gravity fed to replace it.

I was about to order a new petcock as mine would only run for a little while on reserve and then I would be on the side of the road a few minutes. Then it was start up and repeat until I got to a station. As it warmed I would have to continue to turn down the idle. It would have to run on choke for a while and took a while to warm up. I was reading some thread and was about to buy a few parts because my bike sounded like the same thing was going on. It finally hit made be these guys that say no fuel filter are right and I'm getting fuel starvation. Got some new gas line took off the fuel filter, and if I was blind folded I would have thought I was driving someone else's bike. All of the issues are gone.

I think I'll being check the plugs after a couple more drives around town. The plugs seemed to be the correct color with the fuel filter on. Do you guys think with the fuel filter off I'll be running a little rich now?

Hi Mr. biker_guy,

Your plugs will tell you if you're running rich. But I would doubt that you are as long as you're using stock jetting. I'd still keep an eye on your petcock. Have you adjusted your valves recently?

Thank you for your indulgence,

No I haven't yet. I'm trying to get around to that. It is running very well now, but it's not going to be running 100% until it's running 100% right.

Hello again,

Might I suggest that you put your bike year/model in your sig line? It always helps to know what you're riding. :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

The petcock includes a pretty good fuel filter screen. An extra filter is not needed.

Virtually all of the inlet valves in the carbs also have a filter screen, so the gas is actually screened (filtered) twice before it gets used. The only time I have not seen filters on the inlet valves is when somebody had worked on the carbs and either removed them or just mangled them.
