DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey,
I am just looking for some direction. Just got my GS750E last week.
Mistakingly set ther petcock to PRI (Which I now know what it's for....and it's not off) Fuel fills the carbs ok....but doesn't stop and flows into the airbox and down the drain hole.
My question is: are there floats in these carbs, perhaps (Probably one is stuck) or are there any other pointers one can give me. The carb bowls etc are not leaking, just flowing from the throat back into the box.

Paul.

Yes, there are float valves and it sounds like at least one is not working properly. You will need to open up the carbs. I suggest a complete cleaning per instructions on this WEB site and a replacement of the rubber o-rings. You may also need to replace the float bowl gaskets (if the old ones are in bad shape) and afew other parts. Rebuild kits are available (about $25 per carb) but you may be able to get away with a cleaning and an o-ring kit.

If you left on prime for a couple days and then it flooded gas thru carbs into air box - -
- may not necessaerly mean big problem with float needle valves. Just means that it doesnt shut off well enough to prevent it overflowing over a period of days. The float valve doesnt really need to shut off that tightly, but does need to shut off enough so it doesnt flood when engine running. Now granted it might get worse over time to were it effects how engine runs. Or maybe it was just a rare occassion where it got something stuck in there. Or are you saying it floods in a relativly short period of time? Well, thats a problem, yep, a problem with float valves.
- if it flooded your air box, it likley also flooded thru carbs into cyclinder, past piston, and into crankcase, diluting the oil and raising the level. CHECK THIS IMMEADIALTY by checking level and/or by smelling gas in oil fill. NEED TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER before running engine again.

You say you now know what the "pri" positon is. But you know what, I think many of us have had this experience of noticing a gas smell and finding gas dripping out of air box thru some series of events resulting in leaving it on prime.

Yea, what Redman said. Make sure you change the oil and filter. Don't even try to start it of you may cause engine damage.
