    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've got the petcock of my 82 750, and am wondering some things.....

I was advised to put an in-line filter in. Do I need to put the old filter back on the petcock? Without it will the 'Res'/'On' switch still work properly? If not where can you buy just the filter?

Should I rebuild the petcock while it's off? and what parts should be replaced? this site:

offers a rebuild kit. The one for my bike is the last one listed under "Suzuki".
Is the square thing with the circle cut out the screen that I see at the back of the petcock?
Is this all the parts I need?
Is it more advisable to buy a new petcock or change to a totally new one?

Sorry about the barrage of questions... I'm new to motorcycles.

An inline fuel filter is a great idea; I use a glass Russel Fuel Filter with a removable and cleanable filter. Just place the filter in the line between the tank and the carbs. The Russel comes with 1/4, 5/16, and 3/8 adapters for different line sizes; I think stock GS fuel line is 5/16.

The stock petcock filter works very well, leave it in and consider it double protection.

There is not much to change, 1 o-ring, petcock gasket o-ring style, diaphram flange and two special washers for the petcock bolts.

Definetly replace the petcock gasket and bolt gaskets if it was removed or it will leak and make a real mess.

That picture of the rebuild kit is not what is in my 82 750, just go to Suzuki and get the stuff you relly need.

Check out the aftermarket kits too. I bought a "Tourmax" one for my bike. No complaints. 8)

Is there any suggestions on what fuel filter to purchase?

has many options but doesn't give any suggestion as to what model goes to my bike.... I'd think I'd use the "medium", but am not sure. I might just can it and get my parts from a dealer in the area. Any thoughts?
 
is there a trick to keeping the pick up tubes or the "petcock filter inside the tank" attached to the top of the petcock. i rebuilt mine last year and after taking off the tank to do some maintence i heard it clonking around inside the tank.

Sounds like the screen is dammaged it it comes off. take the petcock out and examine it again. Maybe a squeeze with a pliers will do it. If your tank is a clean one then as a last resort leave it off if it comes loose agasin. Just be sure you have an in line filter and don't let any leaves or squirrels get into your tank while filling up.

Yes, you can use a different petcock if you want to. I've been told by 2 very reliable sources that there's no problem in doing so. If you notice on the CRC website, the one with the slot was only used in l980...not a good sign. Suzuki switched and I am too. Yesterday I ordered 44300-45471 from Ron Ayers Motorsports. Their prices for OEM parts are the best I've ever seen and their service is great. By the way, the price was $43.43. :wink: Also, the O-ring for that model is 44348-49170...I don't know if the petcock comes with one or not....if it does, I guess I'll have 2.

my remarks are :

* petcock is at the rear of the tank => place enough (high) for the reserve tube ?

* petcock is above the airbox => place enough to manipulate the lever ?

* your new petcok => with a reserve or without ?
