A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I need a larger tank. I have an 82 GS650G that I commute 62 miles each way on. I have to fill up before I leave home and before I leave work every day, since one full tank won't make the round trip.

What are my options for a larger tank on this puppy? About 5 gallons would be great.

There'z auxiliary tanks to be had out there. Run 'motorcycle auxiliary fuel tank' through Google; it'll come up with something.

How big is the original tank?

I work in litres..so on my 78 GS1000 the standard capacity is supposed to be 19 litres. In order to fit a few more in, I drilled out the breater holes in the neck of the filler. This allows filling of the tank right to the top while on the centrestand. I think I have fitted in 21 litres when I have had to.

In commuting conditions like you mention, I would expect a range of 380 to 450 kms.

In the mid 80s there was a guy running around Kingston Canada. that had a GS850 tank on his shaft 650. He said it was not a bolt-on mod. From a fading memory- it looked alright to me. I seem to remember the seat had to be moved back.
Suzookeeper ger.

I also have an '82 GS650G.

The owner's manual says that we have a 3.8 gallon tank, but when I run it down to where I need to turn the petcock to reserve, it takes less than 2 gallons to fill it up. I've always wondered about that.

How much gas do you put in when you fill it?

If you find an auxiliary tank, let us know.

Your petcock scren is probably clogged, remove and clean/replace it and it should allow all your gas to flow.
