Fun Night!

So i went to school on my bike today everything working perfectly, as soon as i arrive to work my guages went out and the fuse blew, after work i attained a fuse and put it in, blew up right away, so i drove to the gas station about 200 yards away, bought some more fuses to mess with as i realized it was a problem, (btw i did a coil relay mod so the bike gets power directly from the battery) anyways its 730pm dark and i need lights to be visible on my 25 mile commute on the LIE (very busy highway) so i took the entire bike apart right on the side of the gas station, winshield and everything, got it working so i electrical taped it temporarily and after i put EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER i popped the fuse in and it blew up.. Took everything apart again to diagnose, i gave up it was 9pm by now and IT STARTS RAINING WHILE ITS ABOUT 35 DEGREES.

everything is soaked i just gave up and put everything back together.. the bike starts right up but i have no lights or anything and i go on the freeway, half of the trip a random person saw my situation and tagged behind me to block traffic behind me and also he was lighting up the road for me! as if God sent an angel himself! everyone else flew past me nearly killing me.. i came home threw off my clothes immediately as they were soaked and i was FREEZING! well anyways my concern is the water getting in the air filters.. a good amount i'd say got in the airfilters as the bike started to bogg etc. really crappy riding towards the end of my wonderous commute, it was pretty heavy rain... is there anything to do in order to treat water in the engine? anyways today was an absolute disaster, life threatening in several ways, someone play a violin for me

What water would you have in the engine? All the water that was taken in would have turned to vapor and expelled out your exhaust. Every vehicle takes some water into the induction system when it rains so you should have no issues.

Glad you made it through ok, I know the feeling, been there a few times myself, sometimes, you just gotta do what you gotta do to get home.
Once had my LTD250 rupture a carb diaphram on me 600km from home, and best I could get out of it was 50km/h and it was pi$$ing with rain.
A trip that should have taken around five hours, took just under eleven hous, and it poured with rain the whole way, I have never, ever been so cold in all my life.
Some days just plain, down right suck.

thank friggin goodness i thought i had permanently ruined my bike as many people had scared me saying before...

i know i know, i have a big set of you know what but even i knew that it was extremely dangerous and i had some fear in me, downpouring rain in the almost freezing temps with no lights on a long commute absolutely sucks, the whole experience was just eerie and it didnt feel right at all, the entire time my eyes were like this: literally, if i had to pass or go near a car i would give some gas so the person could hear my open pipes, merging onto the 135(local highway) was almost a disaster.. the whole thing would have been different if it was dry out! btw just to top things off I only had TINTED VISOR that day/night haha thankfully i had a winshield but overall visibility was HORRIBLE i had to get my face soaked occasionally to look over at stuff

Offhand, if I had a ways to go without lights, I'd rather be on a freeway. No cross traffic.

used to be. i'm in the albany area now, but spent most of my life on long island. was on 110 yesterday, in fact, passed suny farmingdale.

Sounds like a really miserable night, cold and rainy, but riding home at night without lights? You really put yourself in danger, I know sometimes it can't be helped. You cheated the devil this time around. I would celebrate the fact that you're still alive to tell the tale!

I know that in this case he may not have had any lights at all with the electrics playing up, but if you still have electrics and it is just the lights that have gone out, your biggest risk is being rear ended because of no tail light, just wind the rear brake light switch up a few threads so there is enough pull on the spring to illuminate the rear brake light on permanently.
Also, keep eyes all over around you, if there is an approaching car, swich the flashers on, alternating from left to right between flashes to make yourself more visible to the car traffic.
Just a thought, use it/don't use it.

Edit: With the huge range of low cost LED flashlights available these days, it is alwas a good idea to carry one or two and a roll of tape in the tool stash under the seat if doing any night riding, you can quickly whip one on the front and one on the rear of the bike if need be, to get you home in one piece without being driven over.
A piece of red see through plastic over the rear flashlight will give you a tail light.

Edit: With the huge range of low cost LED flashlights available these days, it is alwas a good idea to carry one or two and a roll of tape in the tool stash under the seat if doing any night riding, you can quickly whip one on the front and one on the rear of the bike if need be, to get you home in one piece without being driven over.
A piece of red see through plastic over the rear flashlight will give you a tail light.

i was thinking about something like that actually... thats a great idea i am going to do that for sure.. oh those were some good tricks before but my entire electric system was just gone there was nothing i could do but its all sorted out now i found 2 bare wires exposed touching eachother from one of my previous meltdowns
