DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Fuse box cleaning

I'm having a charging issue and from what has been written I need to make sure all my wiring connections are clean so I've started there. I took apart the fuse box on my 1983 750T and I thought I'd read somewhere that the fuse terminals should be soldered to the brass strips inside the box for a better connection. Should I do this or just make sure everything is clean? It looks pretty good in there now. Thanks for your thoughts.

Some comments;

- Is difficult to find a charging problem with your eyeballs. Need to "look" at things with a volt meter to narrow down where the problem is.

- Bad connection in fuse box will not effect charging.
All the wiring from the R/R to the battery does not go thru the fuse box.

- You will need volt meter and the stator papers to narrow down where the problem is with your charging system.

- Major suspects of bad connections causing charging problems are:
. Stator to R/R connections.
. Ground wire to the battery box where the R/R negitive is connected.
. R/R redwire connection to bike harness red wire.

.

The charging circuit does go though the fuse box; the 15A fuse near the bottom on most bikes.

First thing I'd do is measure voltage drop though the positive line from the R/R to the battery. This flow chart may help guide you...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/storagecliff1/images/Stator_Papers_Phase_20A.pdf

If you have voltage drop I suggest you work on cleaning all the connector terminals between the R/R and battery. This thread may help you with the process...http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=191170

Ah, okay, yah. True. I was wrong.
R/R+ does go thru the 15A Main fuse to get to Battery+.

R/R+ does not have to go thru main fuse to get to rest of the bike.
R/R+ is connected in in-between the main fuse and the ignition switch.

Best way to check if any bad connection there is to measure if any voltage difference between R/R+ and batt+. Quick votage reading with bike running and can determine if any problem there or not. Or could spend lot of time looking with eyeballs and trying to clean up things and still not know.

I agree with what's been said thus far. Strictly on the subject of the fuse block, it's a good idea to clean it up and solder in general. It's not likely to "fix" anything, but it will make the charging system that much more reliable. Certainly not what you need to worry about now; however, once you sort out your problem, since you're in the garage anyway....
