These handle bars are from a Generation II, FZ1 (06-07). I think they only came in silver those years. Cost $35.00 from Flatout

I think they look sweet. Only problem for me is they give me a pain in the back after about 90 minutes. They are a little higher and further back than Superbike bars so they may be an option for some. Wish my back liked them more.

I just switched these out for gloss black Gen I, FZ1 bars (01-05). Don't have a picture yet but they don't look nearly as good. I own a Gen 1 also and know those bars are long term comfortable. I'll try to post a photo soon.

Me too, but my shoulders would suffer. Too much weight on the hands. I have K&N Superbars and like them at highway speed but for putting around Im liking the looks of the new B1250 bars.

Dave, the B1250 bars look like they provide a nice riding position. I'd say they look to be about an inch taller than the Gen I, FZ1 bars and about the same distance back.

May be awhile before they are available as spare parts.

Those look badass. I love that look. Shame they cause your back to hurt.

Doug,

The good news is they only take 10 minutes to change over so if I need to dress up for some event or a picture I can always put them back on for a spell.

Don't write them off as an option, it could just be my aging body.

Were did the forks come from

Your bars look good but were did you get the forks?

Phil,

Those are just standard 1996 GSXR 1100 forks. I bought the entire front end on Ebay including the wheel, brakes and forks. It bolts right in, bearings are all the same. Makes a huge difference in how it handles. I wondered if clugeing all these parts together would work, and it does.

The bracket to get the gauges to mount so they look right took a little time. It bolts on to the bottom of the top of the GSXR triple clamp. It also holds the ignition.

Any chance you took a pic of the bracket you made prior to installing the gauges? I made a couple, and they are functional, but look like poop.

Cassius086,

Sorry to take so long to respond but those bastages I work for have me on travel again. I didn't take a picture of the gauge/ignition bracket before mounting however, I took a quick look on Sunday and I think I can just drop the headlight bucket (two screws) to give you a view from the bottom. The mounting of the ignition was the tricky part. I get home Friday, so I'll try to get it for you this weekend. Hope that not too late.

Mrbridgeport, When I mounted the USD forks I needed away to mount the headlight bucket and found those brackets. I just drilled a hole in them to accept the stock signals. Those forks are 50mm at the clamp. Do you have USD forks?

If you do I can check my records and let you know where I got them.

Wow! Thanks! A pic would be great! I was at home after I read your post, and saw how great your gauges looked, and was wondering how I could take the time to get it right....thought of taking off the top clamp, and getting a piece of plexi (since it is clear) to make a template of where the holes would need to be. I really would like to make one solid piece, and maybe add some spacers or something.....

Thanks again for the effort, kind sir! :-D

now that you have black ones on do you want o sell the ones in the pic ???

Oooh, anything with FZ1 parts will make it faster...

Cassius,

I stripped the headlightbucket and gauges to get you some shots. I could not take the upper tripple off without too much aggrivation but I think you'll get the idea. Soory for delay I know I promised for Friday but I got stuck on travel two extra days. My motto now days is "Life sucks and then you fly."

Gauge-Bracket-049.jpg

Starting from the top. I started with a piece of 1/4 thk. aluminum and cut out a recess for the ignition and the two tabs that mount to the bottom of the tripple. There is no connection between those two tabs on the back side, they just straddle the ignition. Also drilled holes for gauges and just rounded edges for appearance sake. Note that the front of the bracket is angled up about 20 degrees above the top of the igniton. This gives the proper look to the gauges when mounted and also allows the ignition to sit correctly. Note on the bottom of the mounting tabs you can see the edge of a small square of 1/4" aluminum that is welded to the bottom of each tab. (explained below). By the way I was trying to get the ignition to end up flush with the top of the 96 GSXR 1100 tripple.

Gauge-Bracket-042.jpg

Shot from below. You can see where handle bar risers are connected to bottom of upper tripple. Whats not quite as obvious in this photo is the additional small square of 1/4" aluminum stock welded to the bottom of the gauge panel mounting tabs. If you look real close, a little to the left of the allen screw thats holding the ignition to the bottom of the bracket, you can see the edge of the counter bore hole that mounts the bracket to the bottom of the tripple. So the bracket gets mounted first. Then the ignition gets mounted to the bottom of the bracket and covers the view of the bolt that mounts the bracket. Hope that makes sense

Gauge-Bracket-070.jpg

Heres a picture of the gauges re-mounted to the bracket. I picked up some rubber washers to take up some of the vibration. You can also see one of the two small aluminum squares that were welded to the bottom of the bracket tabs.

No rocket science involved.

No problem there with the delay...you were the one being genmerous with your time!

Thanks a million! Way better set up than mine. Now I have an idea of what to do!

Thanks again!

Mike

Hey isleoman, I have USD forks on my '82 1100E ('95 GSXR 1100) and would love to know where you got your headlight brackets. They look so much better than my hose clamped originals.

RJ,

Those came from Lockhart Phillips , Page 164-165 in their 07 catalog, part number 400-12253 $51.95.

I don't think they (LP) sell retail. I had to get them from my dealer and they had a minimum order price that I think was more than the items cost. You'll have to do a little research. I looked for months and finally stumbled on these.
