Gas Cap Seal

Anyone got a source for the big rubber seal under the gas cap? Mine has gone hard & cracked but I don't see them listed on the fiche...

:)

Looks like it might work out... Wonder if anyone has a part number.. Wait and see I guess. Someone must have replaced it before.

Looked at their site and there are gaskets sold for anywhere from $0.48 to $10 a piece with a minimum order of $25. I know I should replace mine so maybe I can make a call to them on Monday. Kinda curious about this.

Edit: I just shot them an email so maybe we can get a good answer about this.

Different caps have different seals. Someone posted a few years ago a part number for a gas cap seal that wasn't listed in any of the parts fiches. I never did get an answer on how to find such things. Anyhow, I ordered one because my 850's is in a similar state to what you describe. What I got was obviously a gas cap seal, but it looked nothing like what I needed. Basically, it's big black rubber washer.

So don't keep us in suspense Dale. Did it work out?

EDIT: Dang, just looked that part number up and not matching up with my bike (77-79 550E) but does fit the 77-79 750s.

I ended up buying a new gas cap from partsnmore.com, then later transferred the gasket and inner parts to the original so I could use the original key (the OEM lock cylinder would not work in the partsnmore gas cap, but otherwise it was a very good match).

$25 for a new cap from PartsnMore (better than the $75 list price). Something to put on my Christmas list along with new bars and grips.

If you look closely at the gasket the inner edge is curved so it is not just a flat rubber washer. Does anybody know how to find out about the unlisted part numbers? I would love a new tank gasket for my 82 1100e without having to buy a whole new cap.

Thanks,
Dave

Maybe take that new one and glue it on to replace the old one? long as it seals is all that matters in the end analysis.
