    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Gas in my oil

I recently drained my oil to get ready to take my motor out and i noticed that the oil wreaked of gas. I no my petcock is in full working order. My friend suggested that maybe it is the crank seals. Could this be the issue and if so:
-what could be damaged alreay?
-how much is it going to cost to replace in $$ and time roughly

I'm pretty sure I wont be riding it at all this season so I guess it's not a huge concern that i get it done right away
 
Either you have bad o-rings on your inlet valves in your carbs, dirty or bad float needle and seats or a bad petcock. Just because the petcock works does not mean it isn't sucking or leaking gas. Even if the carbs are leaking the petcock would prevent the gas from leaking into the cylinders when it is not running.

No, you have a bad petcock, or it was left on Prime. You may have these other things too, but the petcock certainly is leaking fuel. There would not be any fuel there to leak past the inlet valves if the petcock was working correctly.

I had that same problem. I solved it by going to my local tractor supply store and got an inline shut off and hid it under the tank so you couldn't see it. Now I have no gas leakage. I am sure a petcock rebuild kit would of fixed it but from my experience of working on older bikes with vacuum actuated petcocks, they always leak over time and a concealed inline shut off is the quickest and easiest fix but like I said this is just my experience.
 
I'll try replacing the petcock but I'm pretty sure that isnt it. I might as well check the crank seals while I have the motor out. Is there anything else you guy recommend me doing while the motor is out?
