how big is the hose from the as tank to the carbs, mine broke

As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I think it's 8mm (about 5/16 inch). The OEM part number for your bike is 09343-07026.

EDIT: My mistake. I see that 7mm is the proper size for your bike. The 8mm is used on larger bikes. But that part number is good.

Assuming you're talking about the fuel hose and not the vacuum line, I bought and really like this stuff:

It's a lot like the OEM fuel line, but this guy sells it by the foot. Wonderful to work with, and no clamps required. Got it in just a couple of days going from left to right coast at that...

Great source Mike. Much cheaper than the OE Suzuki line, but looks identical. 7mm is the proper size.

I was using some Goodyear car fuel line for the last couple of years. In that time it had gotten quite hard and was cracking on the outside. I wanted some OEM-style line but didn't want to buy the whole roll, so got 3 feet from that guy and barely used one.
Although clamps are not required, I put one spring clamp on the carb side because I'd really be kicking myself if I had to pull the carbs after I accidentally pulled the fuel line off! I've heard tales told of replacing the fuel line in situ on the carb side by using a coat hanger as a guide.

Auto parts store. 5/16'' fuel line. Get 2 feet and have plenty left over for next time.
Does not fit very well, it's the wrong size.
European car places have 7mm fuel lines.

Ahh.. didn't look at it being a 550.. Can always get 1/4''. Haven't seen any places that had metric sizing on the fuel lines. Either that or they never mentioned it when I have talked to them.

Mr. BassCliff, much like the bolts used throughout the bike, the size is encoded in the part number.
See the -07 right in the middle? Yep, 7mm line.
And don't be put off by the seemingly high price of about $15 for that line, as you get 6 feet of it, or about $2.50 per foot, like that other guy on eBay.

Still wrong size, the 550 uses 7mm line, too.

Ed, the Euro places still have low pressure tubing, the 7mm low pressure stuff is very good. High pressure stuff from auto zone or whatever is terrible for our purposes.

Did read his post. STILL HAVE NOT SEEN IT ANYWHERE. I haven't seen you being one of the snappy people on here before.
btw, I have 5/16'' on my 850 and it fits perfectly.
Did I happen to point out that I have an 850 and not a 550, hence why I was just suggesting the 5/16s and making a distinction between not noticing that it was a smaller model than mine which frequently causes the manufacturers to install smaller lines.
I did some number crunching and it appears that a 1/4" line can flow up to 20% less than a 7mm line. Not saying that the petcock and fittings and everything can flow that extra amount, but since I did the figures, I wanted to throw it out there. The 7mm line is only .03'' wider though.
