A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hi all new problem same pike. i just took my 81 gs650 out for its first drive in nine years. i cleaned the carbs(i think pretty good), changed oil the works and when i got back i notice i was leaving a trail of gas. it was pouring out of the air intake vent the one hanging below the bike and both carb vent tubes the ones coming off the T's between carbs. what did i do or not do. any help would be great.

besides the gas problem the bike hauls ass. i did notice a slight knock in the crank i think. but it might just be my ears.

thank

nicholas :x

check your petcock and make sure that it is set to 'On' and not 'Prime'

If fuel is pouring out ONE or more of the float needles are stuck/leaking
Usually when this happens their is also the posibility of getting gas in the oil - check the oil for gas If it continues after the bike has been turned off (allowing for excess to drain) the petcock is leaking too!

Start with the petcock, tract that down to the carb body inlet. If, as you say, it's coming out of the air intake and float overflow hoses, you have one of two problems. Either the floats are set wayyy to high, or the float needle jet is malfunctioning. If you never messed with the floats, I'd say either the gaskets on the needle seat are shot or the needle jets have crud in them. This can happen from trying to clean the carbs, so a little gunk gets dislodged and jams the needle jet open.

Needle & seat valves

Needle & seat valves

If you end up needing to replace needle & seat valves you can get them for about $12 from partsnmore.com. They come in a kit with those, two o-rings and a float bowl gasket. Had a similar problem, o-rings were rock hard. Migt as well do both/all carbs at once.
