    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey this is probably a dumb question. I have a Clymer manual but it doesn't really say the size of the gas tank. I was just wondering how many gallons the tank is. Thanks

The only dumb question is the one that is not asked. I do believe you're looking at a 5 gallon tank (some manuals will say 5.2g or 20 liters).

Thanks for the info. I got my gauges squared away for the most part but still trying to figure out where to get them from. I dont want to spend to much but I would like to get aftermarket gauges that had some indicator L.E.D.s or indicators for the info I have now.
 
4.5 US Gal. or 17 Liters

I think the last .5 is reserve but not 100 percent sure on that.

will a tank from a 1982 gs 750 fit on a frame from a 1982 gs 850? or do I need to go with a tank from a GS 1000 or 1100?

Not sure what tank the GS1100GL carries, as there are very few in this part of the world, but My GS1000G and GS850G's carried 22L or 5.8USg
 
I guess my main concern is the frame itself - and which tanks might work. My GS 850 project has no tank - but I might have a 750 tank available. But - it it has a different mounting system or frame configuration under it...

With enough determination, any thing can be made to fit anything, in this case it should not be a problem making up a few adapters to fit onto the tank mountings to get it to fit.
Just remember that you must check the seat line up with the tank, as that may not work too well and look goofy at best or just not work at worst.
But you can also fabricate a few seat mounting adapters to line everything up.
All in all it should not cost you more than a few bucks to throw a few adapters together.

The 750 tank is not a direct replacement for the 850G tank. It might fit with some modifications. The 850G and 1000G tanks are interchangeable.

I had a 77-79 750 tank i tried to fit on an 80 frame. No joy there. The frame rails are a bit wider, and you'd have to do some serious beating to the tunnel walls to get it to work. Might be the same prob you have with a 750 to 850.
 
... exactly what I want to avoid. Guess I'll just keep on the lookout for a GS 850 or GS 1000 tank unless anyone has a suggestion of what else might fit.
