DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I tried to find a thread to bump on this with no luck.

Do the innards from a lot of models interchange? I'm looking at a Speedo Cluster off a 1979 1000L model. The faces look to be as good or better than mine, and the big bonus, the speedo goes to 140 MPH instead of 85.

I'd rather not swap the whole cluster more thinking of swapping the speeedo/tach guts and faces. Is it generally possible, do most models have the same diameter?

GL model gauges are typically smaller than the regular G parts, at least I know that’s the case for the ‘82/’83 GS850 & GS1100G which share the same gauges. Did you try checking parts numbers to see if the parts interchange? Checking the tach might be easiest since it didn’t change as much as the speedo.

Good idea Ed (operates on the assumption the guy has the right model listed). I'll check the fiche and see if it sheds any light on it. I know the part numbers won't match on the speedo, but I guess you are right, the tach part numbers may match, and that would be a good sign. I asked the guy to get me a diameter, but he hasn't responded yet. I almost hate to canibalize them they are very nice faces, all the lettering (neutral, high beam, etc...) on the bezel is way above average condition.

Way different part numbers. The face on the tach was a separate part in 79. I'll wait on a diameter, and see iof the same. If so I can make it work mopst likely.

Looks like pre-1980 550, 750, bunch of others the same part. The numbers don't match with post 79, even on the tach, but the cluster looks identical. I may risk it on some pre-80 550 gauges sub 50 bucks.
