A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just picked up an 82 gs1100E
first E we have, we have 3 Ls this is our first E

looks great, runs good, havent driven it yet, got it last night, been raining all day todya, pressure washed her clean

i noticed the indicator last night wasnt giving the right gear number, nor was it back lighting, i was just getting a black number which you cannot see at night

i searched and found that the indicator sender is down by the chain
so i took the sproket cover off, and unscrewed the 2 screws holding the sender on, saw the few copper contacts, i wiped everything clean, oil was dripping out when i had the sendor out, is this right?

also i noticed the sender had a gouge threw sever of the contacts

i also searched and read that the plugs are under the tank, so i disconected the tank and moved it outta the way
i undid the 2 sets of connectors, checked how they looked, very clean no broken pins or crud on the contacts

so what should my next step be?
how would i trouble shoot what it is?
and how is the single display backlit?

thank you

Chances are, the readout in the instrument cluster is the issue. You can try changing the sender to see if it changes but my money is on the readout in the cluster. Ray.

the indicator does change numbers if i shift, but its wrong numbers

is there anyway to test out what it is vs throwing parts into it

took a ground and touched each contact

2 was shown on most of them, i got a 6 and 7 to show aswell

no 1 or 3 or 4 or 5

so where can i get a display for at the gauges?

Look on EBAY as they are not available new from Suzuki any longer. Or put a wanted in the FOR SALE section on the forum.

ebay was my first place i looked
alot of sensors but couldnt find any of the indicators themselves

You might have to wait a while for something to come up. Everything comes to him who waits. It would also be good to check out the earlier models that used a digital indicator to see if any are the same as yours. Will give you more options when looking for one. I know the early 70s two strokes had them, GT750 etc.

well i picked up an entire gauge set on ebay, 37bucks plus shipping

got it, totla garbage, he said good working condition
got it to find a big gauge taken out of the housing

opened it up to find the gauges were broken and had been glued back together

anyways, i hooked them up to check the indicator (the real reason i bought it)
and it shifts threw the numbers correctly, which is great

but it still does not light up, are these things supposed to be backlit?
or is it just black numbers on grey background?
