A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi, I am currently restoring my 1978 Gs750 (see my other thread)

I have just about sorted the wiring (i haven't let all the smoke out of the wires yet, so i must be doing something right), but I have an issue.

The gear indicator currently displays random symbols (i.e not numbers) In addition I have the neutral light staying on across a couple of the gears (I think it gets a bit dimmer though) so I suspect this is a bad earth????

So what are the possible issues with the gear indicator (LED display, switch?) &
Why am I getting false neutrals?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you have a wiring diagram?

Do you know how to follow it?

Basically, there is a powered wire that feeds all the lights in the display panel. All of the earth wires travel down the main harness to the selector that is down by the front sprocket. There, there is a wiper that moves with the shifter drum and makes contact with the proper wire and completes the earth circuit.

Places to check:
1. verify that you have power at each of the bulbs in the display
2. verify that a connector is secure from the back of the display/instrument housing to the main harness
3. there is a connector that is usually under the tank, probably closer to the carbs, that has a sub-harness that goes down to the sprocket area.
4. verify clean connections and proper spring tension in the selector switch. CAUTION: if you remove the selector switch, there is a spring-loaded ball in there that is VERY easy to lose.

Cheers Steve. I do have a wiring diagram and have been studying it. The bike has clearly had a bit of work on the loom in the past (all tidied up now) I have power to the selector switch, but haven't stripped it down yet (will be careful to not lose the ball)
I'll have a look as you have suggested and get back to you.
Thanks Rich

Hi, bit of an update. I've removed the sensor and it is very scored across the contact area. So much so that I suspect it is completely broken.
Anyways, does anyone know if new ones are still available or even the part number? Ta

It's $47.98 at G&S Suzuki, but who's counting?
