    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

YEAH! Like that , only do all the fins on the engine too. That would look fly, for a white guy.
 
Bruce, I'm glad I could help the rest of the guys make up your mind for you. Now, what we need is for someone here to step up and offer to do it for you. I'll gladly fly out for you, but as big as I am, they'll charge me for 2 seats (they've tried it before). But, I figure since you're paying, I'll do the work for free.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

Doing ALL the fins would be alot of work, and might look a little too "pimp daddy" for me. :) But I think I'll do the fins on the head like on my 1150.

What a nice offer! So two seats round trip...only about a grand. Hmmm....let me think about it....:-k....
 
I think the fins should be polished and the edges black...:eek: :D

I like to be a bit different...so shoot me! :p

I like all of them but the chrome finned.

Jump ball between all chrome plain and silver edged finned.

Okay, I talked myself into all chrome plain....unless you polish the edges of the head fins, then go with the matching cover.
 
I like the plain polished alu fined ones. Now, WHERE did you get those? I have been looking for a set for the cafe for ever.

Good 'ole ebay. I bought them a couple of years ago. They don't come up too often. And when they do, they go for mint money.
 
first choice solid chrome originals
second black fins with polished edges on caps and head.
Or, whats your body work color? maybe have them anodized with a matching or contrasting color, then anodize some of the other alum. bits on the bike too match.

The "theme" for this bike is to make it look like my 1150's "older sister". I'm going with a silver frame and 1100 swingarm, powder coated. 1150 rear wheel and front end with the black forks. The 1150 calipers will probably get polished or powdercoated black. Blue and white body parts in some sort of Skunk/1150E design. Engine and side covers gloss black. The VM29's will be painted or powdercoated gloss black with polished tops and bowls. Chrome bolts on the side covers, head, carbs, etc.

I think I'm sold on the black finned with chrome tips. That and the sides of the head. Subtle and sexy!

I think she'll turn out to be purrrrdy. :pray:
 
From the sounds of it it's gonna look absolutely AWESOME no matter which you choose.
Of course its kinda like cheating when you're platform is a GS.
 
Bruce, to give a truely honest assessment, I think you should SEND ME the black finned covers with the shiney edges. I would need to see them mounted on my bike for say...a year or two. Then I can give you my advice.

When you polish out the tips like that... do you have to worry about the rest of the black paint chipping or flaking off or do you do a clearcoat over everything to hold it all together once you're done painting and polishing??

I've wanted to look into painting my engine as well, but never knew how well the paint would hold up. I've painted car engines before and it was always hit or miss if the paint would stick... even when I used high-temp paints.

Was thinking it might be better to powdercoat the engine then polish the fin tips so long as the polishing wouldn't cause the rest of the powdercoating to come off.
