    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted.   • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I've tried 8 different sets of frickin Snap-ring pliers and I CANNOT GET THE FRICKIN SNAP RING out of the diaphragms to complete the last step in the installation of the stage-3 kit in my carbs!!!

i'm about to throw the whole damn thing through the wall. Someone tell me exactly what type of snap-ring pliers I need to get in there and get that damnable evil snap-ring out of there...the boys at sears, napa and autozone are getting sick of me coming back and frankly...I'm getting tired of them.

Mauny of us have more that one set of snap ring pliers 8O 8O

A small pair of needle nose pliers and a steady hand will do it
 
Thank you scotty. I was about to go get some medical supplies from the hospital across the way and modify a set of surgeons forceps with the grind wheel to make what I needed.

I haven't felt this worked up in anger in weeks. Something has to work.

It is a common problem. This comes up as often as synthetic oil and using jumper cables to remove the stator cover.
 
Even with the needle nose pliers, it's a bit of a task. I couldn't even get the snap ring pliers inside the the slide because they were too wide so I went out shopping for a more narrow pair and couldn't find any so picked up the skinniest needle nose pliers I could find. It does the job but still ain't much fun.
 
Well, I figured I could modify some needle-nose pliers to do the job but the thing i'm scared of is how to get the snap rings back in. The stage-3 kit doesn't say anything about that. Half-assed directions... :?

Snap ring pliers with removable heads is how I do it.
See harbor freight link below.
I just use the straight head, not attached to the handle,
and drop them them down in, fart around with it until
you get the pins lined up with the holes in the snap ring.
You may need some needle nose to help you do this.

Once the are in the holes just squeeze the ends together with a
pair of pliers and ... :lol: the snap ring pops right out.

It took me a few minutes the first time I tried but I can
do it in seconds now.

I got my set at Northern tools, I guess these at Harbor Freight are the same.

I use the ones from sears, I just ground down the sides until it fit into the slide. Works much easier the needle nose pliers, at least for me the snap ring would just keep slipping out of the snap ring holes.
 
I have a small pair of long handled, needle nose, hobby pliers from Craftsman that I use as snap ring pliers. They have a return spring to keep them open also. They work great and can get in really small places. I also use them to remove my shims from under the cams when I adjust the valves.
 
I use a set of needle nose pliers from Sears. The p/n is 45661. They are long and very thin and require no modification.
 
Awesome everyone. thanks to you all for the advice. I went by the craft shop here on post and got a set of the small needle-nose pliers and finished the install of my Stage-3 kit. Now once I get the pod filters and dial it all in I'm done.

When your putting them back in, pull the needle all the way down and hold it with two fingers. Then, put the snap rings back in. Holding the needle all the way down is the trick. This lets the other parts literally fall into place....
 
Thank you. I did just that and it reinstalled just fine.
I'm not going to reinstall the diaphragms until I find some replacement hex bolts for the carbs. Anyone have any part numbers for those or where i can get a set?

Just go to the local hardware store with an old one and match up the threads, and size. I like allen heads personally.

Scotty, I've seen you guys comment on that funny topic enough but I can't find it, can you give me a link? I want to read about the jumper cables :)
 
Detman, for future jobs like this in areas similar to that looks to be I have had success with a piece of wire, tweezers and needle nose pliers. Both in and out. Feed the wire (good bread twisty wire works well or a stronger wire if they are real strong clips) through the holes with the tweezers and then simply twist tighten it with the needle nose pliers until it pulls the clip together. To put it back, reverse the procedure. It works like a charm 8) I have done this many a time. I wish I would have seen your thread earlier, sorry about that.

We had an engineering student say that a professor at his college said if one wanted to remove the stator cover easily, the magneti pull could be neutralized simply by wrapping a single jumper cable around the housing then connecting one end to the minus of the battery and the other end to the plus and the current flowing through the cable would neutralize the magnetic field. Well theoretically that may work but a few select rowdies on this website were a bit unkind to the student siteing the posibility of an exploding battery. A few choice comments about the professor were made also :( --IMAGINE THAT 8O

Though it used to be less true of engineering professors than most other professors, the phrase " Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach." I wonder if it ever occurred to him that he was describing a dead short. I've always found these to be a bad thing.
