A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Beautiful work . but before you go to doing any test rides , you might want to check the front tire for a direction arrow , I do believe the front tire is mounted backwards .

And hopefully I am wrong

thanks for the heads up on the front tire . the front tire is a universal front or rear you fit it one direction for the rear and the opposite direction for the front i found it rather strange myself i wonder if it would make any difference if i switched it around ??????????? has anyone else encountered this with the front avon ???

The arrows pertain to whether you use this tire on the front or the back.
See the words above the arrow, front fitment or rear fitment.

OK , first off let me just say , I may be wrong . It looks to me ( I am no expert ) ,like it is backwards . And if I think I understand your question .

Running a directional tire ( with arrows ) backwards would probably handle OK on dry pavement , but will not be able to channel water away in the wet .
meaning it will hydroplane which is something we never ever want to do .

i know what you mean for sure i just dont know why it says on the side of the tire to mount it with the tread going bacwards for front use i was reluctant mounting it that way but that is what the arrow said for front use ..

howd you get your aluminum that clean? I sprayed rust remover on my metal and it got on my aluminum now looks horrible.

i used 1500 grit wet sanding 1000 grit on bad surfaces then used a buffer with buffing compounds a lot of work but it looks new when done . not a buffer for a car a buffing wheel for a grinder or a drill. SEARS sells them in the tool dept

Chandler..I am a bit skeptical as to the originality of the headlight brackets on my bike.. Its the E model and the bike has chromed brackets..whats the ones yours has look like? Can you pm me or post pics of each side??

hey Chuck if you go to the very first post on this thread ther is a pic of them on there you can see both if you need more pics let me know . the ones on my bike were painted a satin black and were the origional ones on ther for sure

I was just checing them over actually ( mine ) and wouldnt you know it!! I found on the backs that there is black paint down in the seams..Think the a PO way back when stripped them and poilshed the base metals.. I also googled some sales brochures and they all seem to show black ears. So black they will be again

Well I stand corrected , and that's a good thing . I would guess that the Avon engineers know more than me . Sorry to raise a flag over nothing .

Rock on , I like the project , looks good.

i actually left them on because i had planned on wetsanding them with 1000grit and buffing them i didnt really see any texture on them when done though. but it did one hell of a job on my carbs made them look brand new sprayed the carbs and let it sit about 10 min and hosed them off did this 3 times after the 3rd time carbs looked awesome the engine i let it sit about half hour every 10 min or so i would spray some more on so it wouldnt dry on .

I got some old covers in a box..some experimenting is in order i think before slopping it on everything... thanks for the advice..

well spent last night redoing my wireing harness cleaned all connections installed coils all new tape on it from top to bottom have almost everything hooked up just sorting out connections right now then wireing will be wrapped and covered to conceal it . i will be putting a battery in it tommorrow and if all is right with wireing i am going to try to get it started after i put on the new spark plug boots i have :D:D . once i have that all sorted i am starting on the fuel tank wich is in really good shape has some surface rust but no dents or rust inside and holds fuel didnt see any leaks :)
