As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Suzuki has discontinued head and base gaskets for chain drive 1000s
What are you using?
I see Cometic makes a 73.5 mm bored head gasket

I have a 1085 kit

Yeah, the Cometic is what came in the 1085 kit, so that's a no brainer
How about the base gasket? I see Z1 has one, no manufacturer name

Not in stock, no longer made.
I had my parts guy check
There's one on EBay, here in the USA

Thanks Ed, I bought that base gasket

I'll get the rest of my gaskets from my local dealer

Who would'v thought that stuff like gaskets would become obsolete?
A few years back I was asked to put together a list of stuff that would be submitted for a remanufacturing program, nothing seems to have come of that but the vintage parts program came as a spin off.
Nowhere would I have thought that stuff like gaskets would be discontinued. Head gaskets have always been eye wateringly expensive, the composite ones were discontinued in favor of MLS and were still hella expensive...

Partzilla still shows the superseded MLS head gaskets available for 850/1000/1100G models. This is what I run for all my bigger GS 8v engines (big bore 750 & 1000).

Quite spendy though at $123 + shipping...

The base gasket IS showing as no longer available, what the heck Suzuki?!?!

At least Cometic can custom make any paper gaskets to order, & very quickly... Composite head gaskets as well, but I much prefer the MLS head gaskets.
Athena made an MLS gasket for the 1000/1100 that looks nice, I have one or 2 here, from Nick @ Suzuki Performance Spares.

Suzuki REALLY %^$*@%^$ed me off early this year by completely discontinuing listings for the Suzuki PE 2-stroke enduros and selling off their entire stock of plastic bodywork and other NOS warehoused parts to a private club in the UK...
Really ridiculous considering so many of the parts were shared with the air cooled RM125 & 250 of the day (still listed), and nut/bolt/bearing/seal/spring/etc parts shared with hundreds of various Suzuki models... So why not just keep the PE listings up with the common cross reference parts?!? Nope, only Bike Bandit and CSMNL still list the PE series. Major bummer.

Is there any channel we can complain to about Suzuki dropping support for these midels slowly? The GS were more mass produced than the PE pure enduro series, but are still getting simple parts like paper gaskets phased out... Darn Covid!!!!
I guess this means we're all getting old as well!

Athena MLS head gaskets:

Edit - you can actually get the whole 1100G gasket set for less than that shipped, the head gaskets there individually are coming from Germany, so $$ shipping.

Despite there being quite a lot of anti -Athena feeling on here, they seem to be the only gasket makers prepared to make for obsolete brands and models. For most of the older Italian brands - eg Benelli, laverda - they are now and have been for some years the only game in town. With very few reported problems too.

I've used them on 8V and 16V Suzukis as well as Ducati, Benelli and laverdas with NO problems - incl race engines.
