    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi all

I am restoring a (GB) GS1000 and i'm currently working on the wheels, now they have been stripped blasted clean and am in the process of polishing the rims and spoke edges.

Now my question is the internals of the spokes are black but for the life of me I can't remember if it is matt or satin, its been a long time since I owned one, also I was going to acid etch and paint myself but which paint should I use, I not a great lover of powder coat.

Any tips would be great.

think (85%) there where satin and VHT paint would be my first choice.
 
Yeah I thought they were satin too just wasn't sure thanks for that Sharpy..:)

I've had great results with epoxy paint. Chain lube doesn't affect it at all.
 
They're not actually black if you're after a spot on resto (though satin black is pretty close). The closest colour I've found is a Vauxhall colour and it's either graphite grey or charcoal grey (I can't remember). Only available as a gloss I believe but you can flatten the paint off and it matches original.
 
Correct, they are not black, they are some weird, grey/charcoal/ leaning towards satin black, but not really, more gun metal type strange Japanese color I never seen before.
I know, because I have been scratching my head over what to do with my wheels now that I am busy with the resto.
Interesting point about the match to the Vauxhall colour, except we don't have any Vauxhalls here...damn, back to square one, although it would probably be one of our Opels.
Ok, now to go stalking Opel showrooms, with GS wheel in hand, this should get interesting.
 
Them wheels look awesome but which finish would YOU choose. Powder coat stove enamel or 2k spray paint?
