A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm getting ready to replace the chain on my wifes bike and need to know what size chain I need to get. TCK said I could find it in my manual but all I have is the haynes manual and I didnt see it anywhere in there. Does anyone know what length I need to get. Thanks in advance.

Also if anyone has any advice on the best place to get a chain. I checked Z1 but all they have is the x-ring chains which is out of my budget.:o

most chain manufacturer sites have tensile strength rqtings as well as fitment guides

that waay you can pick a chain thats sufficint for any forces a your specific engine can put through it

Call Z1 and talk to a human. They have a lot more parts available than they list on their web site, and are very knowledgeable. They will be able to tell you what size your chain is, how many links you need, and the chains available for you. You are aware of a couple of things: Installing a new chain on worn sprockets will lessen chain life, and using a non-oring chain will also decrease chain life. I understand budgetary constraints, I am just pointing this out.
You may wish to seek out a true Suzuki Service Manual.

Hi,

The stock chain for the '81 450L is a 530 with 102 links.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thank you kind sir. Where all can I find these chains at.

Hi,

You have a lengthy vendor list in your "mega-welcome". Z1 would be a good place to start.

I ride a shaft drive bike. What do I know for chains? :D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Ok I found one but now I have another question. TCK gave me some sprockets for it. The front sprocket he gave me is a 14 tooth and it says the bike takes a 16 tooth. Will this make any difference.
