I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have a few questions about the 2 barrel carbs on the gs550. First I have opened my air box with a k&N and put a 4 into 1 on it. Now it doesn't idle right infact it dies if I don't give it thottle. How do I richen the idle is it the screw close to the main jets. Also can I shim the needle cause this one is not adjustable and I don't want to buy a 125 dollar jet kit.
THanks

Can someone tell me the difference between the pilot screw and pilot needle and which one I want to adjust for idle mix
Thanks

Someone please just tell me if I want to adjust the screw near my manifold on top of the carb or the pilot jet under the carb in the bowl to set my idle richer. And please tell me which way.
Thanks

when do I check float levels
I had the bike running and I got a very high level on my one carb
Can I check them buy just puttin it on prime? with the motor off

In my opinion, you should just stick with the pipe and re-install your air box lid, if that's what you mean by "opening it up".
Removing the lid will require re-jetting the main, jet needle position, and at least mixture screw adjustments for the pilot circuit. You don't really pick up that much more power. If you don't have the experience/patience/synch tool/manual to re-jet and tune correctly, you could cause yourself and the bike a lot of problems trying to squeeze a couple HP by removing the lid.
If you keep the air box stock, (K&N filter is OK) you can probably just increase your main jet 1 or 2 sizes and richen your mixture screws an additional 1/2 turn out or so.
A good manual will show you how to set float levels, bench synch/vacuum synch the carbs, etc.
