    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

No, one went bad and i figured why not replace both? Determined by using a multimeter and the fact cylinders 1&4 both arent firing...

Did you switch coil positions and find that the problem moved with the suspect coil ? it never hurts to be sure ! In any event, make sure replacement coils have same resistance. My stock coils are 4 ohm
 
Both the dyna & the universal coils wil work...

The green dyna coils are 3 ohm which is what most members use here, they will support a dyna S ignition in the event you want/need to replace an ignitor.

Those universal coils are most likely 5 ohm coils (same as stock) and will not work with a dyna S ignition.

Some here have also started to use the dyna 3 ohm mini-coils too...
 
Bah, Tom i wish i had seen your suggestion to switch the coils. I had found that the coil itself was receiving power, but not being delivered to the plugs. Also i noticed the post on the coil itself was extremely loose. So i ordered the universal ones and put them on, no change. Is my next step the ignition?
 
Those universal coils would work fine. Dyna S works fine with stock coils too if you ever find the need to change.

Good to hear it'll work with the dyna ignition, if thats what i'm going to need. : /
 
is there a test I can do to see if the ignition is indeed the problem?
 
Yes! Ignition system tests are detailed in the factory service manual.
 
ok excellent. ill check it out when I'm home. Anything else I should check that could be causing the problem?
 
I'm not sure if i understood the testing instructions correctly, but i removed spark plugs 1&2. Rested them against the cylinder head (connected to the plug wires still). Disconnected the green/blue wire plug coming from the ignition. Hooked my tester up + to blue - to green and saw no spark on the cylinder as i connected and removed the tester.
I want to confirm that my tester actually has the correct setting to test the ignition and i had it selected. (not to keen on all the different settings.) So if someone could tell me which setting so i know for sure, that would be great. I was using this multimeter:
