    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

gs clutch adjustment

ive been searching, for clutch info, i fired her up tonight with fan on it in the shed, no rego yet to try it out side. i moved clutch cable location a bit and could see the cable was nearly all the way out on adjustment's on both ends, as it has set of L model handle bars it's cables not standard length for my model, 1984 G. testing clutch out in shed with motor not running and in gear i can pull clutch lever in when sitting on it in gear with clutch in, it still feels like its dragging a little in the gears as i move it back and forwards its not free as in neutral. That would just be the friction through the gear box ?. before i fire her up and put it in gear i wanted to ask how to check it correctly, thank you clancey.

Hey Clancey, here's the way to adjust your clutch according to Ed (Nessism) and the process is spot on:

Step 1) Turn in the cable adjusters at both the handle bar lever and where the cable goes into the case. You want maximum cable free play at the lever.

Step 2) Loosen the lock nut on the adjuster.

Step 3) Turn in adjuster until you JUST START TO FEEL resistance then back the adjuster off 1/4 turn and tighten locknut.

Step 4) Check feel at the lever. There should be some free play at the lever, but not a whole lot. If you don't know what free play is please ask.

Step 5) If necessary, tighten the cable further until you have a small amount of cable free play with the lever released, but not much. You must have lever free play or the clutch will slip.

When she's cold, it will be quite difficult to turn the wheel in gear with the clutch in, especially if she hasn't moved for a while.

The instruction listed above is for bikes with a helix actuation mechanism like the GS450/550. For bikes without this, the way to adjust the clutch is by tightening or loosening the cable. There are adjustments on both the engine side and clutch lever side of the cable. Take your pick which you want to adjust and play around with the adjustment until the required amount of freeplay at the lever is achieved. Hint: when the clutch is dragging, you want less freeplay at the hand lever, which makes the clutch disengage further.

Aaaaah thanks Ed! For some reason I thought they all adjusted the same way...
