A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi all could anybody help i have bought a 1981 GS 850GX in the uk,it is an import from the USA.The speedometer only goes to 85mph is there any difference in the final drive ratios over a UK speck model as the exceleration is good but at 70/80 mph the engine seems to be reving very hard at 5500rpm or do i need to get a uk spec revcounter:confused:

That's just the way they run. Don't worry, just ride it. That engine will take a lot more. After 6K RPMs is when the fun begins!

Even you want lower RPMs at the top end you can swap the final drive from some of the 1100s.

The differential swap would involve finding a late 82-83 GK one with the 2.90 ratio Not worth the expense. Will change about 300 RPM from what I have heard. My normal freeway RPM is 5500-6K The bike will do that all day without any problems. If you have a 16" rear wheel ? you could go to a 17" wheel for about the same change

The 2.90 rear end came in all the '83 - '84 1100G's. I put a 1100GL rear end in my 850 and as Lynn said, it was good for about 300 rpm.

what does the 82 1100G have? and if i happened upon the 2.9 one, assuming i don't have the 2.9 one, if i happened to have it, would it be worth it to make the swap?

Define "worth it"?

I don't know about swapping Mr. seuadr, our bikes alreday have the lowest RPMs at 70 MPH on the list.
