Well, I built the Turbo Bike that I always wanted...... 83 GS

1260 MTC Pistons
Falicon Crank W/ Straight Cut 1100 Gear
Heavy Duty Clutch Basket
All the heavy Duty Studs and Stuff
HSR 42 Mikuni
Holley Pump
DYNA 2000
Raked the Frame
Rayjay

Went for a ride with the waste gate backed all the way out (Defective)
19 PSI of boost W/ 91 octane fuel = melted pistons

Got a 1327 kit and a real nice TIAL Waste Gate and got it back together
and it works real nice except for the small back tire. Install water injection as well.

My 1150 head finally came in and I'm gonna throw that on and see if it makes a difference.

Fun Project (-:

Awesome J. Can't wait to hear more about it :)

Do you have any pics of it?

Are you using the dyna 2000 to retard the timing while starting and under boost ?

When I first got it together, I just left it at the stock settings and found out that Turbos like less timing so I have it set up at 28 deg. and I use the 2000 to put more retard in it. I still have to play with the timing but I'm gonna wait till I can get it on the dyno or take it to the track. This Turbo stuff is all new to me. I've built several normally asperated motors but this is the first turbo. So far I have been through 2 sets of pistons but I think I got it now :-) It can be very expensive.....

Welcome to the high power club!! Your going to like it, if your pockets run deep. If your building a brand new setup, why would you put a 20+ year old turbo design on it? Was it an old kit you found, or came with the bike?
Which Rajay did you manage to dig up?

Turbo

On my 81 GS I decided on a do it yourself blow through kit vs the Mr Turbo kit. I have a friend who has a blowthrough from MC-Express on his Bandit 1200 which gave me the Idea. Since I am going to run an oil cooled GSXR head on my GS I only had to buy the header from NLR. (Can't make one of those at home). the rest I plan to make myself. I am looking for 250 RWHP at a moderate boost level. I had a Mr Turbo kit on a Bandit 1200 and it took over 20 Pounds to get there. My 99 Turbo Busa made 250 at 12 with a Hahn kit. My GS is a Prostreet project with USD forks and GSXR wheels. 68" inch wheelbase. A stock GSXR head on a GS motor flows better than most ported GS heads. My 1327cc motor with a street port job GSXR head and G21 cams made 180 RWHP. topped with a 100 shot of NOS it was fast in the 1/8th. the other bikes I sold but held on to the GS, different I guess. I want to have it finished by July.

Forgot... I run 1999 Katana 750 36mm carbs and will be using them for the blowthrough kit

I've already put several hundred miles on it ( Both hard and cruising ). The reason I went with the old Rayjay is because it is from the old ATP school and thats what I was looking at in the early 80's. I decided to build an all out Dragbike in the early 80's and couldn't decide whether to build a Turbo or just a normally asperated so I went to LA and visited with Pee Wee at American Turbo Pac. I also visited with RC Engineeering and when I got to Vance and Hines I went with their stuff. Bike went low 9's when the big boys were running high 8's so thats not bad coming out of my garage :-) This Rayjay that I have wil go to 30 PSI of boost. It's a 300 series.

They claim that you get from 7 to 12 HP per pound of boost.
105 stock plus 20 x 7= 245 HP. I know that at 19 PSI for the short time before the pistons decided to get to their melting point on mine it was smoking the tire and looking for the sky all at the same time. I just got my 1150 head that I'm going to throw on and see if it works better but I'm gonna stay with the stock 1150 cams. I also just picked up a dragbike chassis that I'm gonna use the swing arm and rear wheel so I can get a little more meat on the road.

1150 cams are great for the 1100 head but I liked my G3's in my 1150 head. Still just a bolt in cam. I hope to have my GSXR head on and have a good start on the kit. On a 1216cc Bandit 1200 running 28 pounds of boost it went a 5.59 at 133mph in the 1/8th. This was on a 10" inch over arm and lowered. Not bad for a drawthrough kit bike ridden to work and on the street daily.

Which turbine and compressor profiles?

To be honest with you I dont really know. I had the Turbo rebuilt right after I got it and then decided to get rid of the Suoer B and go with the HSR 42. I sent it to Mr. Turbo and had to have the housing changed to mate up with the Mikuni. All I know is it screems.........

If you want to send them to me, I can post them for you as well. Just send me a PM.

There is normally a plate on the compressor housing that has the part number. If the turbocharger has not been modified, I can tell you what you have from this number. If the tag is not on the unit, look at my turbos and tell me if yours looks like mine or not.

3rd set of pistons???

Why don't you mount an onboard A/F meter to your bike? That way you can monitor your mixture and you'll know about lean dangers before your pistons melt.
