A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi all, not been on for a long time :(.
Just to let you all know, I've put one of the cheap 1100cc kits, off eb**, in my GS1000 and I've done a good 500+ miles and it's working great :D. Well worth the cash.
Item number 261297544129 (I do not have anything to do with the sale lol) just passing a good thing on ;)

Interesting, good to know. Thanks for posting. The gasket seems to be holding up as well?

I know the bike is running fine but how did you find the quality of the stuff?

How noticeable is the performance difference? Is it torquier or faster on top end?

They're not a high compression kit, just a standard compression. However there is a noticeabe diference in bottom and mid range - more power and torque - as you'd expect from a bigger bore. I wouldn't say that it compares to one of the Wiseco (etc) full performance kits, which are high compression and will give better all-round (including top end) power and performance boost (albeit power = torque x revs!) but it's a lot better than the original engine was and great if your engine's a bit tired or needs a rebore. I use it on an everyday commuting bike and even on shorter and slower  journeys it's definitely reminded me of how much I like the torque of these big older engines :)
I did have Wiseco hi-comp 1100 kit in my other GS1000 and so I do have something to compare against.
Also, I haven't had to bother on this 'standard' kit of messing around with strengthening anything, hi-comp gaskets, studs etc.
I'm using CV slide GSXR1100 J 34mm carbs by the way (and K&N individual filters) with a Harris Works exhaust - seem to be working well.

Thanks for the info, much appreciated. If it doesn't cost all that much to get the heads readied for that kit, it sounds like an affordable upgrade.

I have a stock 78 1000e (26mm carbs) and I wish it had more punch than it currently has. Since all my mechanical expertise is just what I have picked up here, I need to also keep it simple.

I don't know how much it will be over there to have the bores done, but over here in the UK I got the bores rebored and barrels and head skimmed for ?140 by a small engineering business who specialise in car and m/c engine work. I'm told it's about ?20- ?25 per bore.;)
