Gs1000g

Hey guys,
I recently purchased a barn of parts from a fellow GS owner. I built my brother a 850L out of it and now Im getting to build my 1000G

Someone, had cut all the supports and tabs out of the from, the steering neck supports, horn support, the side panel tabs, rear brake bracket. I had a few other frames sitting around so I call up my master fabricator (my pops) and he gets to work replacing all the brackets.

Missing and then reassembled brackets

Then off to the powder coated it goes, aka to my dads work
There was quite a bit of splatter because his welder does not use gas, but I'm able to deal with it

Finally After a week he bead blasted the parts and then powder coated the frame, swingarm, brackets ect.

here is the finished product

Brake Bracket is back in the frame

Master Cylinder Bracket

Its all so pretty

The great wall of suzuki parts

The donor 850G for all the nuts bolts and small things

Someone put too big a bolt in the motor mount punching this hole in the crankcase, i paid an aluminum welder $50 to seal the hole

Got the engine back from the welding shop

and back in the frame

Coils Mounted

High Temp Engine paint on all the brackets

Swingarm mounted.....
I forgot to put the driveshaft in

Final Drive mounted and rear shocks to see how they look

After cleaning the final drive and mounting the rear wheel i look down and find this

Coming along quite nicely
So back off everything came to place this back in the final drive

Great looking build so far, will be following this one. Man, sure wish my dad had a welder and powdercoating shop, you're sure lucky. Great info on the degreaser, I'm going to pick some of that up today.

Yea I'm super lucky he was a welder/fabricator for 30 years so when I gave him this frame I knew it would be taken care of and done correctly. I could of muttled my way through it but there are little tricks that he knows and can fab stuff wayy quicker than I can, plus his welds look a hell of a lot better. There is some splatter but the welder is a 110 HF mig welder. We are looking at buying a new one but for what we do with it doesn't justify enough. The powder coating is just a sweet option for the frame and such. I dont know if i will have much more done, was thinking of doing the fork bottoms..

I put the gs1100gk shocks on the back, I like the look but I don't know how well they will function, opinions?

Nice job! Good tip on the ZEP citrus degreaser, I'm gonna try that on my 750 engine.

But my only thing to compare too were the blown factory g shocks on my 1000 and the super short after market junk that was on my 850 from the p o

Sorry for the delay, i have to actually work and make money to pay for this build pfff responsibilities.. anyways here is the progress I have made
/the gauge mount bracket was wrecked but with a little persuasion it went right back into shape

Cleaned and painted the upper triple tree

The donor bike had these little caps on the front forks, does anyone know what they are used for? I assumed some sort of air pressure equalizer? The donor 850G i believe had some history or someone put time into it, it had progressive springs, oil cooler, aftermarket mastercylinder,

I cant say enought about this Zap degreaser, this stuff is amazing, I filled up a 5 gallon bucket for parts soaking and here are some results

The forks were trashed so here is the seals,

The first one popped out when inflated the rest were not so easy

I disassembled the forks for complete rebuild and cleaning, so these were removed with a little persuasion

FACCCCCKKKKK the bolt rounded out using the correct bit

Its hard to describe how much crap was inside the fork tubes, i had to take a wire wheel and a small screw driver to get all the gunk out of the seal clip holder in thingy area

In keeping up with everything i had multiple sets of G forks, so i disassembled them all to find the best ones but all the seals were removed

Disassembled forks, i have never taken a set completely apart so this was all new to me for anyone wondering what they look like disassembled

Before

After, still has a few blemishes but much better

15wt fork oil was used

Mounted the triple tree with new upper bearings, i cross referenced the steering bearings and went to Oriellys and got a wheel bearing with the same dimensions, I figured if it takes the weight of a car at 70mph then its good enough for my steering stem

I changed the Turn signals out for the square ones, I like these better than the round ones, this is where the bike is becoming a Frankenstein bike

The weather was 60's on Saturday so we took old blue out for a drive, It was quite nice and with the new metzlers still handles quite well

I also got my fox-body out this weekend also and cleaned it up, I don't drive it near enough but I cant get rid of it either, when I bought when i was 18 it was a empty shell, and now has an aluminum headed 306 with every modification imaginable. Its fun to drive but currently needs a new clutch, i dont know why.....;)
