A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

He probably lost control because of those ugly handlebars!! Good basis for a project, though.

Yikes! My EN has the same factory scheme. I hope I don't have nightmares over seeing that tank!

Lots of pics of the project please...

Yes I have night wets, because of how hard it is to find a tank like that. To make things wore not an ounce of rust thought about using screws to pull dent then cut out a section and tig weld a patch and repair. It would be a ton of work. Question about how to determine models of bikes my info tag is worn off still have stamped number in frame. Where wire wheel stock or an upgrade option. Mine are aluminum. Thanks for any info and more pictures to come.

The standard 78 and 79 1000 s came with wire wheels with aluminum rims and one front brake disc

BTW, get a hosting site and post big photos

Thanks for the information, by hosting site do you mean like photobucket. Polished rear wheel.

You might try filling the tank with water and freezing it. You'll have to keep a close watch on it so it doesn't swell too much and split open.

Not sure which tank you are talking about the GS 1100 tank is what I am going with for now. Pulled dent by drilling holes and pulling, then welding and grinding down. Being fill and powder coated by a friend. Thank for your reply;)

Sorry. I was referring to the original one that was caved in on top. Never mind. :D
Rest of what you're doing looks good. I like the rear wheel. Lotta work there...

Rebuilding front forks. The tubes where bent in p.o. Death wiggle/ laying it down.

Bluesmoke, you've got some skills

Most people can't straighten out that thin metal on the gas tank

I can't help but notice that the bike has a 78 tail on it. Is the choke a lever on the left side of the carb?

Yes the choke is on the left side. The bike is a 1978 gs 1000 with an 1100E tank I believe.
