    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000 Pistons: What are my options?

Machinest says my cylinders need a bore and one over pistons.

Wiseco offers only 3mm and 3.5mm over options (not sure a 1085 motor would be legal for my class of racing).

OEM sites list a 0.5mm and 1.0mm pistons, but the math by the time you buy everything individually (pistons, rings and pins) comes in north of a Wiseco complete kit.

Does anyone make a 0.5mm complete kit? Are there any other options?

That thread also contained a guy selling some .5mm OS pistons w/cylinder. That looks like the hot tip assuming the cylinders clean up well with a hone job. The bike only had 22k on it so the pistons/cylinder are likely in good shape.
 
What about sourcing some stock-bore cylinder sleeves and replacing the worn ones? (I'm asking 'cuz I really don't know.)

I thought I had--through the machinest. Now he's suggesting I find them myself, saying he can't save me any money buying them for me.

I've put a lot of time and money into this vintage racer and have already been burned on used that parts that were supposed to be OEM, etc. and I'm not up for buying someone's used parts at this point.
 
I can give you a deal on new CPs but they would be custom made & will run you about 700 bucks. At least you will get the BEST pistons made & we can get them made to the bore size you need to remain legal. You need to check the rules & then build to the max edge of the rules! :D I know it's a little pricey but CPs ARE the best & we can get them made to YOUR specs! Let me know if I can help, Ray.
 
This guy has a set of .5mm overbore Yoshimura pistons for sale. True to the Yoshimura tradition of the era, they used only one compression ring. The guy doesn't have rings but said he thinks you can use stock Suzuki rings, or you can have rings made by a company like Hastings. To heck with all this. Is the GS1100 a direct swap with the GS1000 as far as motor mounts and carbs? There's a real nice one on eBay and I can go that route for less than a top end kit.

Then that's the plan. Thanks for your help. I've started the search for a good GS1100 motor and will do the minumun to the GS1000 motor to get it on the track so I can test the new suspension and get some laps in until I find a good GS1100 motor.

Just because you find a GS1100 motor doesn't mean it won't have to be rebuilt. Until you open it up and check it you won't know if it's any better than what you already have.
 
Many thanks to Frankenzuki for guiding me to MTC Engineering in FL. They have reasonably priced 71mm (1025cc) piston kits for $250. They are NOS and not on their web site...Ask for Cliff. I'm checking with my machinist now to see if they will work with my bores. There's hope yet. Will still plan on a GS1100 swap when I can find (and afford) the right motor.
