A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000 rebuild - someone here??

dardoonk

Forum Mentor
I ran across this blog of a fellow restoring an old GS that is on Caferacer.net.
According to the story: It's a $400 for bike that has 12,000 miles and sat since 1982
Whoever it is, they're doing a nice job.

Hey that's me!

Didn't know anyone read it. Check out the latest - she's coming along very well.

what year and got some pics of your empty frame on there?? Dardoonk and i are lookin to do a 1000 swap in our 750B frames..im curious to see what mounts will have to change..

It's a 78 and I didn't strip it down to the bare frame, so unfortunately I don't have any images of it.

See Kurt RobBob's frame is near identical to ours, i think we may get lucky...

Glad to see they're going on something nice.

Is the black paint in as good of condition as it looks?

They're the ones. The paint is in really nice condition but not perfect - in the sunlight you can see some scratches and thin spots, but it rubbed out nicely.

At some point someone painted over the "skunk" stripe with black, which is unfortunate.

Almost famous?

Almost famous?

Mr. robertob,

Your project is coming along nicely. Thanks for sharing all of your hard work (and fun).

I noticed on your blog that you've added a link to my little BikeCliff website. I'm honored. Thanks for sharing the love! :-D

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Dunno if anyone's following my project but I've torn the engine down again to do the valve adjustment and clean it up.

I still don't buy the reason given for the valve clearance measurement method given in the manual, but I checked it both ways just to see. No difference, but eh, stuff happens.

Anyway, it's getting there.

I'm still waiting on Stainlesscycle on ebay to send me my bolts grrrr...

>>>>I'm still waiting on Stainlesscycle on ebay to send me my bolts grrrr...

I ordered two engine bolt sets and a carb set and have heard nothing.
The first order was 1/8/08 and the other two 1/14/08. Sent an email yesterday but still waiting for a response.

When/IF you dont get your bolts...

Z1enterprises carries them as well. I found my set from them included EVERY bolt, whereas StainlessCycle's did not.

I got a set from stainless first, then bought another set from Z1 because I didn't have any for the valve cover. Glad I have extra though, because I used two to attache the side covers and in a couple other areas.

Extra's are always good:-D

Thanks for the info. The stainless cycle one is advertised as having the bolts for the cam cover. I sure hope it does.

Here's the message they sent:

VERY IMPORTANT: WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF RELOCATING OUR SHOP, WE ARE MOVING
SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES, INTO A NEW BUILDING.

THIS WILL MOST LIKELY CAUSE DELAYS IN PRODUCTION.

IT MAY TAKE AS LONG AS 14 DAYS FOR US TO SHIP YOUR KIT. SOME KITS WILL STILL
SHIP ASAP. IT VARIES.

!!!!IF THIS IS A PROBLEM LET US KNOW NOW, WE WILL REFUND YOUR PAYMENT ASAP!!!!

WE BUILD KITS IN THE ORDER RECEIVED, WE SHIP AS FAST AS POSSIBLE.

What irritates me the most is they don't have time to send out my bolts but they have plenty of time to list more for sale.

Didn't answer my email either.

Its probably an automated relisting. Once someone hits the buy it now, and the sale is complete, it probably relists them shortly after.
