A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS1000 road test

Hi all, I thought this YouTube video by biker of Atlantis of my GS1000 may be of interest. Andy is on a quest to ride 100 different bikes. I have owned my bike 27 years and it is not as it left the factory, but it is as I like it !. For the first 20 years it was in California.

Thanks for sharing that. I got the impression he liked your GS. :)

It confirms just about every impression I have of these bikes and why they are my preferred ride after all of these years (I bought my first GS--an '80 850--in 1979). I still had it in 2017 when when a hurricane took it. That seat on the early G models is the most comfortable I have ever encountered on a motorcycle to this day including some custom ones.

Enjoyed watching. Though haven't rode one of those GS1000's for a long time, the memories could make me relate to everything he was feel'in, All Good. Those GS1000 seats were about the best available back then, till the 850 & 1000 "G" models got here. Like dpep, I can't say as I can remember any bike seat more comfy than those early "G" models. Thinking everybody that ever rode my "80" GS1000 G commented on how good the seat felt... Somebody please his bike had gear position indicator, I don't remember my chain dr, GS1000's having that feature, have I just forgot??? Do remember the "77" GS750's had them..

Well spotted on the gear indicator. It's the top part of an L model dash centre. Modified by me to fit on top of clocks, the gearbox sensor is from a GS with gear indicator.

Here is my take on the GS1000.
